My experience

Hi everyone...

I wanted to take a few moments to let people know about what happens after you take citalopram. I was diagnosed with anxiety and mild depression about 18 months ago. It went away for a while with taking medication however returned after a few life changing situations. I have been taking it for about 1 year now and it really helped me in the early days when everything felt so bleak. I was anxious about everything- my career, relationship, money, home etc etc... however combined with a positive outlook and confiding in my partner/ family and some close friends, my mindset began to shift and now I feel back to my normal self. I have reduced from 20mg (highest dosage) to now a 10mg tablet once a week. I will be stopping in a few weeks totally.

I want whoever reads this to see that no matter how bad it gets and all those funny thoughts come into your head- you need to think about all the great things you have in your life (everyone has them, sometimes you just become complacent) and if you dont, then you need to start making some changes to get the great things back. The hardest part is making the change.

Stick with it and work with your Doctor. Also, listen to your body! Watch out for too much alchol. The next day and seem 30x worse if you have a hangover...

Cheers! :P

thats a lovely message, it is so true but sometimes it hard to even get it. so thoughtful of you to think of others.

Yes! You are so right. If citalopram works for you it is absolutely brilliant to feel that you are coming away from that bleak, fatalistic mindset. So often it is circumstances beyond our control and making that have pushed us in to this state.

How long a time have you left between reducing the doses? I have gone down from 40mg to 30mg and been on that for the last six weeks. Should I be looking at dropping down further now. I can 'feel' more, the natural pressures of life now, but that's not going to change and I don't want to be on this drug for ever!

Every good wish for the future. :P

Hi - interested to read your experience; my hubby has a long term illness but I work full-time, but last 3 months he has had a dreadful time and I have suddenly been feeling exhausted and totally run down and weepy. GP has put me on Citalopram 10mg increasing to 20mg this weekend just to take supposedly for a few months whilst I have counselling. I was concerned about being on drugs for depression but your positive note and outcome has given me confidence. Good luck for your future.
