My fathers Meds have now been stopped

and he is experiencing a lot of pain and stiffness again. can anyone advise what he can do next. thanks

As we have no background information we cannot really advise.  Does he have PMR?  If he still has symptoms why have his medications been stopped?  How long has he been ill?  Does he have any other diagnoses or explanations for his pain?

Sorry Rachel - bit more detail please. I'm sure you told us all - but we'd have to search to find it and it could take ages.

Hi my dad was diagnosed dec2016. He was on steroids which have gradually been reduced to zero and he now seems to be experiencing the same symptoms as first diagnosed. My dad is 73 and as per the consultants recommendations was taken off the meds. We are in the UK.  He now has an appointment to see the consultant but I wondered if Anyone has done this also and what was the outcome

Of course he still has the symptoms like he did at the start: whatever his rheumatologist thinks, PMR does not last for 2 years and then it is gone. The median time to get off pred is 5.9 years

The idea is not to reduce relentlessly to zero and stop - it is to reduce to the lowest dose that manages the symptoms as well as the starting dose did. Unfortunately there are still far too many doctors who believe that PMR lasts for 2 years and that is it. They are WRONG as hundreds of patients on the PMRGCA forums in the UK will attest (there are 3, this is just one) as will the top rheumatologists in the field - at least 4 of whom I know personally!

Is this the same consultant or might you be lucky and he's moved on? Whereabouts are you, at which hospital will you be seen?
