My first post.

Hi, I am a 73 years old male with a recently U/S discovered enlarged prostate. I have had urinary problems for some years and several repeats of UTI that seem to be diet related. I now find that any sugar, acidic foods or oily or fatty foods lowers my urine PH and poor dietary care has caused me to require 4 separate catheter insertions since 2015.

I have reduced my food intake to a mash of potato and carots plus spinach in a toasted sandwich of wheat bread, with the only beverage being alkaline water. This diet, in conjunction with the use of a moderate amount of  baking soda allows me to maintain a reasonably balanced urine Ph around 7.5 to 8.00. This allows me to have "A" class urination, and reduced night time bathroom visits. A great night is two trips to the CR.

A recent lapse of sensibility with peanut intake reduced my PH to 5.00.

My U/S tests found no real problems....just an enlarged prostate.

All-in-all, I have hopes of reducing the size of my prostrate and enjoying easier and less nighttime urinary visits but I think that my future diet will probably have to remain as it is now. Too bad...my wife is a great cook!

Has anybody else had a similar experience? Is there any advice for people like me who have disrespected their body with food and alcohol abuse? Cheers.

I'm avoiding UTIs by keeping my urine pH level close to 7, and by self cathing once a day just before bedtime. Also, learning self catheterization may help you to avoid future trips to the ER. You can still enjoy your wife's cooking. Hank

I'm also avoiding bladder stones by keeping my urine pH level close to 7, and by self cathing once a day just before bedtime. Hank
