My LHR feels like a heavy weight

Hi Hipsters - only you know this is like.  I am 50, female, not overweight, always worked out and active.   Sep 26 I had left THR.  I am on week 6 of recovery.  I feel like good days and bad days.  I still have the walking cane and pain is so much less, then before surgery.   I know the physio and excersizes help and strengthening the leg is important.   I feel like I have a heavy weight on my left side - wonder if that will ever feel normal (and does this add weight to my scale haha LOL!!!

Hello hipster,

Sounds like you are doing great -

well yeah ... a lot of trauma has taken place in your left hip area -

muscles, tendons etc were severed, joint forcefully removed, bone cut and new hardware hammered in ... this caused heavy swelling -= and major healing is needed -

if you are up to it and haven;t done so,  have a look at the live THR surgery on youtube ... not for the squeemish ...

I read somewhere that the  hardware weighs about 2-3 pounds  -

keep on doing what you are doing !!!

big warm hug

The hardware in our legs weighs a bit , but then so did the piece of bone they removed from the top of our femur ,  sadly I think it just about cancells out.

I think scar tissue feels like it weighs more - that could be it.  It DOES get better, each day, just slightly ......... but this is a very long recovery process, at least for most of us.  As Renee says, keep on with the exercises to strengthen the muscles.

Best wishes

Hi Renee

Thank you

My pain level is better after surgery

I have a ways to go and I have a feeling that in 12 months when I'm feeling great it will be time to do the right hip.

I am def NOT watching the video and I would probably have nightmares - I don't really want to know how the hip is replaced

Doing the excersises and not sitting for long periods is the key to feeling better

Hi Rocketman

Ok so I can't deduct at least 10 pounds when I weigh myself

Haha

LHS

Sure would be nice if the implant accounted for at least 19 pounds...chuckle chuckle

Did you get a stem of the super-heavyweight design, like mine ?  Chuckle Chuckle Chuckle

😆 😉
