i have been diagnosed with LS 12 months ago. Flairs happens definately around ovulating times. im 54 years of age. what more can i try
Were you prescribed a steroid ointment like Clobetasol to use 2 times a day, then a moisturizer to be used each time you void?
r u on any prescription medication for it??
Hi, Ann, so sorry you are having alot of flairs, have you tried the Aloe gel mix with turmeric oil that Nancy k here on this site told us about, its really helps cause its cooling, also are you soaking in borax for 20 min. every day....thats helps alot...hope this helps you
Has your doctor explained to you why this is happening at that point of your cycle and if there is anything you can do about it? I just checked and the luteinizing hormone surges at the start of ovulation, estrogen levels decrease and the progesterone level starts to increase. I am older than you, way past menopause and was diagnosed with LS around 66. The gyn said it was definitely caused by low estrogen in my case. Prior to that I was diagnosed with atrophy which is also caused by too little estrogen. I wonder if using estrogen cream just before ovulation would control the flare? It might be worth asking your doctor if he/she is offering nothing else. Or maybe taking herbs for menopause like Ginseng and Dang Kui would help. I would see an herbalist or acupuncturist before taking them though. I drank a Chinese herbal tea for fibroids after menopause and they did shrink. Prior to that an oncologist highly recommended a complete hysterectomy so I now have a certain amount of faith in Chinese herbs. Good luck.
hi... I was diagnosed at 65 by Dr. Paul Nyirjesy and was put on Col (somethinng) and also Estrace cream because u need some hormones to help...this was 3 years ago and my LS is doing quite well...
As much as I try to be "all natural" some drugs r needed for this condition and here is YOUR choice...be in misery OR take a prescription medication and be happy...only U can make that decision...
by the way - who at 66 is still ovulating?????
She said she is 54. You are confusing her with what I said.
i "thought" she said she was 66....see above..
Ann (who is 54) is the person who started the conversation. In my response to Ann I said I was diagnosed around age 66. Fifty four is already fairly old to still be having periods. Sixty six would probably be a person with a serious medical condition, I would think. If you look at the name on each post there is an arrow pointing right to the name of the person whose comment they are responding to.
Ann - Ask your doc about Tacrolimus. While the steroids help, Tacrolimus, for me, has been a game changer. It is prescription and can be used WITH your steroid...but I would strongly recommend you talk with your doc about it.
Snap, I went to a dermatologist office (where all 3 docs deal with gyn issues...not easy to find). I was prescribed the Tac but my insurance won't cover it because they say it is only approved for Lichen Planus. The doc is sending in an appeal with an article showing it is effective for LS. Otherwise it can be made up at a compounding pharmacy in PA for close to $70. Were you the person that said it could lower your resistance to other gyn problems? I asked and the doc said just the opposite, though what you said made more sense to me.
hi Vicky. i have only be given ointments so far no oral medication. its as if my vulva is deforming and its really worrying to me. my GP says he does not know of anything that works. i do have an appointment to see him on 16 Oct
i read in an article if you just leave it it can become cancer
are u using this daily. although im 54 im not in menopause yet. the dr said my hormones is that of an 18 year old they cannot believe that the hormone count is mine. i have had a histerectomy at age 32 but not full histerectomy so i still ovulate regularly
hi janie.
never tried that but hey worth the shot.
thanks so much.
regards ann
no just ointments which is not helping
no no steriods only cortisone.
no oral medication.
im worried as it looks as my vulva does not look normal anymore.
Bev - If you can afford it, I'd say it is worth the $70. I started using it around 1st of July and haven't even used 1/10 of the tube (large tube). And the benefit has been ENORMOUS! Took about a month to get past initial side effects...a really wierd hotness and then itching...but well worth sticking it out. I'm not in the process of weaning down to a minimum/maintenance dose of both the tac and steroid. Doc said my skin looks "normal".
Tac was developed as a drug to help reduce rejection of organ transplants...it is an immune modulator (as opposed to an immune suppressant). Of course, in those uses it is both IV and oral. In this use, it is just topical. I wouldn't presume to say whether to use it if you have other gyn issues...but I have had such a positive experience, I hope others can also benefit.
