My mom is suffering from this disease what should I do to help her get rid of her pain.

My mom is suffering from Herpes zoster two weeks now.  She is 74 .  She have the rashes in her back and below her chest.   Her rashes looks good, dried but she complains about the pain and the pricking sensation around the area where she had rashes.    She can’t sleep whole night.  And I am nill about this disease.   Plz help 😢 can’t see her pain.

Hello. Did she go to the doctor and get the antiviral meds..Gabapentin and a strong Opiod pain medicine. I am so sorry that your mom is in so much pain and cannot sleep shingles is a painful illness. Will you let me know? Diane

I am about her age and had shingles on my left hand and arm about a year ago.  I’d had the shot (there’s a much better one available now which I plan to get) but got shingles anyway.  I didn’t get the meds in time to do much good.  Someone told me recently that blue emu creme helped him tremendously.   Like your mother, I couldn’t sleep at night because of the sharp, stabbing pain.  It did finally subside but I didn’t find anything that helped very much for about four weeks or so.

So sorry to hear about your mom's pain. As Diane has mentioned she was hopefully given an anti viral to begin with. For some gabapentin does help for others not so much. I have reoccurring shingles and take trazadone for sleep and tramodol for pain. Frankincense oil helps the rash and or cold compresses. For continual good health take lysine and vitamin B and turmeric. Hope this helps. Wish your mom well. Gayleen

Your mom should go to her doctor to get strong pain medication. I took ex strength Tylenol which helps a bit. But eventually I went back to doctor as I was having PHN which is extending burning pain after shingles is over and he gave me pregabalin which is to settle the nerve and I took that with x strength Tylenol..  cold wet cloths help to cool the pain, also solercaine with lidocaine helps a bit too.  Hope some info here will help as we have all been there! Shingles pain is horrific!

I understand your mom's pain. I am 75 and have had shingles and the lingering pain for 8 weeks now. I had the antiviral med which is probably too late for her now. I just yesterday got an rx for lidoderm..., Lidocaine pain patch which I have not yet received due to insurance. I pray it helps. I have taken Hydrocodone from the beginning and now just at night. I take Advil during the day to ease the pain which never goes away completely!  I also use cold compresses which I keep in the freezer. That has brought a great deal of relief. Gabapentin is also useful they say if you are not allergic to it or Lyrica. This nerve pain is excruciating pain. I pray your mother gets some relief.
