Hi, my 76 yr old mom who is on hospice due to lung failure had a partial hip replacement 5 weeks ago. Everything was going beautiful In her recovery from surgery until Tuesday and Wednesday she had to get in and out of the car for a doctors appointments. Now she is in pain, she can still walk too and from the bathroom which is only a few steps away from her using her walker. Is it possible she dislocated her hip or did she just over do it going to the doctors office and getting in and out of the car? We are going to call her surgeons office when they open today.
Hope the best for your mom My surgery was no a normal surgery I am still in lot of pain and many things that I cannot due I am in very good health I np even take medications only pain medicine vitamins like omega 3 is very hard because my mind say go ahead and my hip said no .Take your mother to the emergency room or a urgent care if she is in pain to be sure that is nothing wrong

I know it's a worry for you and your mum. Definitely have the hip checked, but I don't think it will be dislocated. I'm 70 year old and it's 17 months since I had my hip replacement and the first time it happened to me I couldn't move and my husband called for the ambulance and eventually after being x-rayed they came to the conclusion it was severely cramped. Just over a month ago I was trying a bit of gardening taking heads of the dandelions and I bent down and couldn't get back up just laid on the lawn. Again the ambulance was called and they managed to get me on a stretcher and into the ambulance. On the journey to the hospital I had a full canister of gas and air. When they managed the x-ray the hip had fully dislocated and i had to have a general anaesthetic to put it back in place and spent 5 days in hospital. Let me know how your mum goes on at the doctors.

Thank you for your response, we called the doctors office and set up an appointment for tomorrow morning at 8am. It's a two hour drive each way and my mom says she isn't in hardly any pain anymore. If it was dislocated would she be out of pain? We are thinking it was just a muscle spasm for her as well.

i would tip its that especially if she has hardly any pain. Like I said, when I has the islocation I couldn't move without pain. Even to straighten my leg that's why when the ambulance came they had difficulty with the stretcher. They had too carefully place two separate halves underneath, one at the top and one at the bottom. That is why they gave me morphine and gas and air. Just for the short journey to the hospital.
Still have it checked it will ease your mind.

I agree with Brenda that you should go to the appointment to have her hip checked out ..
2 hours drive one way is a long journey and probably not comfortable for your mon ... but I think that this is the right thing to do, darling -- just to make sure all is well and if not, she can be treated right away ...
hopefully it is "just" a cramp -
have a safe trip and keep us posted okay --- we are with many here -
