Oh bless you both, what a horrible thing to happen. I am presuming you didn't have a good experience or bad memoires of yours.
I would imagine that because your mum has attained a great age they will keep her in a little longer than the standard three days but if all went well then she may possibly be home earlier than that.
I hope that authority has some community support for you both and certainly Age Concern should be able to help. I am so sorry I can't take away your worry but there are loads of really kind people here who will have answers to your questions x
Sue so sorry to hear about your mum, will you be able to easily get to see her in hospital? My mum lived in sheltered accomodation and had dementia as she got older. She also had home care as her health declined and I was also a part-time carer.
Try not to worry, your mum will be safe whilst she is cared for in hospital.
Let us know how she (and you) are getting on.
Linnet xx
Oh Golly!! Only thing on a plus for her, bless her, is my Father in law had dementia and had to have an aneurysm repair at 90 years old. He had no idea what was going to happen, had no recall of the op/ intensive care etc. Surgeon said he'd never seen anyone recover like him ..... Why??.... Because he didn't have the memory to worry about what was going to happen as he didn't remember the whole thing!!! Silver lining!
Also, she has You keeping a beady eye on her.
Hope all will be ok for her & you. Try and stay calm. Xxx
I'm so sorry this happened. My thoughts are with you and your mom. Best wishes. π
Hi Sue,
I am sorry to hear this --- wow - does she live in a home, a care facility ?
6-8 weeks is a long time to be in the hospital, however, maybe due to her age and also physical condition, this might be the best and safest solution ..
Is there something bad about that hospital ?
Please come back and keep us informed, okay.
wishing you and your mum lots of strenght and please, have faith !
big warm hug
renee
Oh Gaby !!! I like your post ... didn;t do a LOL because that might be considered insensitive ...I am definitely not insenstive, but your little story puts things in some kind of perspective ...
(tiny little smile)
thanks sweetheart ---- how are you getting on recently?
warm hug
renee
Sue I pray that your mother has a quick recovery and can leave the hospital sooner. You have to make sure that they get her out of bed and mobile. Take care!
That's very upsetting! The same thing happened to my husband's dad. He was 97, I think, and had severe dementia. His fall was a very minor one, but it broke his leg near the end of the femur. He had a partial hip replacement, with a new ball, just like your mom. His recovery was amazing. He regained the ability to walk. He was quite bent over even before he fell, and that didn't change, but he could walk using a walker and having a helper to prevent falls.
Something about his dementia or who-knows-what meant that he didn't feel much pain. In situations when the rest of us would have been screaming, he was just fine. He never acted as though he was in pain at all. So I hope things go as well for you mom as they did for my father-in-law. Hope her hospital stay turns out to be as good as possible for her surgery and recovery.
You have to lol otherwise u go nuts㪠You know what's harder is You become the parent and they become the child! It's tough!
Me...... Hmmmm well I am finally recovering at a snails pace with my knee!! My other knee on hip leg has come out a little in sympathy so I'm being really careful. Trying to rehab my hip now too which is going ok, but can only do a few exercises so I don't do damage to the knee.
BUT I haven't stopped crying or snarling for weeks. Can't be bothered to get dressed/ make up etc. 12 weeks inside our house has done my head in!!
I saw my Dr yesterday and he says I'm suffering depression which he knows isn't my character at all!!! He's given me Happy Pills but I'm NOT going down that route no way!!!
I'm having my cortisone jab finally tomorrow which should help my knee, and all other pain in my other knee , back , & neck etc & then I'll be able to sleep and then I'll feel BETTER!!!
Omg all this just because I had my hip done!!
Which is fine!!!
Been trying to walk for a while which is tiring, after I feel like I've been horse riding!!
So...... That's me!!
Keep smiling
Love Gaby.xx
You're great Gaby - laughing in the face of adversity. Good for you.
At least I didn't have that role reversal with my parents - father died at 64 just before his retirement (far too young), and mother just kept on going, and had all her marbles right to the end.
I feel rather like a young pony today - very frisky arounf the physio's gym this morning - actually trotting between the equipment !
Yesterday I needed a crutch around the house, then someone pulled a lever or pushed a button overnight, and now my hip now works fine, hardly any trace of a limp. Unbelievable.

Oh the Joy of being an only childππππ
On a Happy note so glad you're Frisky( lucky Mrs Rππππβ€οΈ
My knee is improving! Slowly! Finally insisted on jab tomorrow , styled for it in my bumπ±As to dodgy in kneeπππ
Dr says I'm suffering with depression now gave me Happy Pills ππBut I'm NOT taking themπNot going down that route! No way!! I'll get back to myself eventually( even tho I'm hell on earth to live with! )ππ
Goodness, you have been through it ... we're also only children, so know what that can be like with no family support. Most of Rocketwoman's family were killed in WW2.
Not sure if you got her book - I've not had any feedback from those who did buy it.
Mrs R will have to wait for week 6 for that ... Mr Frisky is still being careful, don't want to cause a dislocation do we.
I would also keep off the happy pills π - I wouldn't want them either.
I just don't like taking pills of any sort, even ibuprofen or paracetamol for a headache.

what on earth did I say? didn't expect to get moderated.
Kate, thank you for your concer, my experience was brilliant absolutely brilliant, so no bad memories i was more worried about her dementia. Her op is now over and all went well thank god.

thank you once again for your support,
suexx
Linnet, all went well and she is comfortable and asleep.
mum has a wonderful carer who is living in at the moment looking after us all, she is amazing with mum and has really brought her out of herself. Both me and my sister are her main carers have been for 7 years.
thank you for your concern. We are all ok, thank you.
suexx
Gaby, thank you for your positive comments, my mum is out of the operation, back in her ward and sleeping, we are going to gomin tomorrow?
because of the dementia she could tell us she was in so much pain, in fact she was diagnoised on saturday with a urine infection. No better which is why yesterday we called again. We are hoping she will be able to forget she couldnt walk, and just do it. Watch this space.

renee, thank you. Mum lives at home with my sister and myself, we live upstairs she lives down. The doctor explained that they will keep her in as she is 91 will have to learn how to walk. , because we live above a shop we have 13 steps to get to our front door and her doctor nearly had a fit expecting her to go up them.
the hospital ia amazing, i cannot fault any part of the royal free, the way they looked after her last night in a&e was just brilliant, and i know she will be cared for by an amazing staff as she will be in the ward next to the one i was in.
thank you once again.
