This time last year I was in hospital waiting to go down for my hip replacement. I was terrified. I realise now there was no need. Everything went so well. Now here I am 1 year on and I'm a new person. I'm off all medication, I'm back riding my horse better than before as I now sit straight and there's no pain and I'm back at work. To be honest most of the time I forget that I've got a new hip. It was interesting at the airport as obviously I set the alarms off. I told them that I had a hip replacement, I had to be scanned and was allowed through.
I hope my experiences over the last year will encourage those of you who are just starting out on this journey. Yes there are highs and lows, but in the end its well worth it to be pain free. The only time I do worry is when we get snow and ice. I'm terrified of falling and damaging my new hip. But how often do we get those conditions here in southern England.
Well here's to the start of my second pain free year.
Hi, hippy28,
Great little post and fantastic to read a good story for once, I'm in for the specialist next week and hope to have my op March ish. You sound like you come a long way in a year, bet it's a fantastic feeling to get your life back yep š
That's what I miss the most, I'm only 53 but feel 153 lol. š¦
All the best for your second year recovery, stay safe and enjoy life š
Pete
Iām about ten weeks post hip replacement operation
I limp for about the first few paces with pain and then Iām fine
In fact I walk about a mile every morning
When will the temporary limping and pain subside?
You are so right monkeypearl, it's great to get your life back. You only realise how much pain you were in when its not there anymore. I was only just 60 when I had the op and am still amazed at the difference it's made. Good luck with yours in March
Can you remember if you had problems with limping around the 10-12 week post-op date?
I do my exercises twice a day as outlined by my physical therapist and I walk at least 9000 steps per day
I'm hoping that I'll get better in the next couple of months, if not, I'm heading back to my orthopedic surgeon
Nice to hear a positive outcome story
I'm sorry I can't help on your limping problem. I was lucky as my consultant managed to equalize my legs during the op so that I was no longer limping. Before the op there was a difference of a few centimetres between my legs so I had a permanent limp. Now that's gone. Both legs are the same length and I no longer limp. It's great.
