I am 18 and female.
I have processing difficulties.
I do have a history of Anxiety but i am not medicated.
I have a resting heart rate of 88
I am on the Pill to regulate my cycle.
I do not have a fever or any symptoms that would sujest a cold flu or infection.
I have had a blocked nose for over a year now, some days only one side, either the left or right is block and on others its both. I have trouble sleeping at night as I keep waking up out of breathe or with an extremely dry, sticky mouth (this often leads to sore throats and on many ocasions tonsilitis). I have tried vics and steam and stuff but it just iritates it. When ever i go to blow my nose no air gose through the blocked side(s) and i often pop my ears trying. I also have tryed home daining, but the water wont go through (i have tried every posible angle).
This is realy bothering me and i am a little scared to ask a doctor face to face (I suffer extreme discumfort in situations i am unprepared for or do not understand), can some one please help me by:
1. telling me what may be wrong (if it is more that a blocked sinus)
2. telling me what a doctor will ask me or do.
Thank you so much for any help you give me.
P.s Spicy food causes a very small runny nose, but it dose not fix the problem as my nose feels even more blocked after. (I have tried this many times with all kinds of spicyfoods, in all kinds of quantity and frequency).
Hi Dumbblockednose, it sounds as though you might have a deviated septum. Have a look at this leaflet
https://patient.info/doctor/Rhinitis-and-Nasal-Obstruction.htm
Go to see your GP and explain your symptoms and he should examine your nose and then he will probably refer you to an ENT Specialist. You may require a small operation.
Good luck.
The only way to find out is to have a specialist look inside your nasal cavity! This is done with a 'telescope' or an endoscope; bit tickly, but otherwise OK!
Get your GP to refer you to a sinus specialist - GPs don't have the equipment for this examination
The Royal National Throat Nose and Ear Hospital in Gray's Inn Road is very good - but looks very Victorian. Professor Valerie Lund runs the clinic - one of the world experts on sinus problems
Otherwise, Addenbrooke's in Cambridge is good too; Mr McKiernan is the lead clinician
Lund has operated on me twice; McKiernan is about to do so for the second time! Nasal polyps (if that's your problem) need regular surgery - like cutting grass!

I am sorry to say it is most likely a polyp but it can be taken care of you have either the option of sterios spray to shrink the polyps ,surgery or natural remedies.
you should have it looked at though to determine what exactly is going on.
But try not to worry it is not life threatening.
Do visit your doctor, I don't like troubling my doctor either. I always feel like I will be wasting his time, and not nearly ill enough to trouble him. I had a really blocked nose recently. I have Asthma and constant Rthinitis, and blocked nose, was the last straw, like you I did the nasal wash, steam too. My doctor thought it was a nasal polyp, and gave me a corticosteroid nasal spray, it has now shrunk the polyp, as I can now productively blow my nose. I can breath through my nose, something I like everyone, I took for granted and I no longer wake with a dry mouth.
I also bought online a nasal Beam, they can be bought at Boots and Lloyds chemists It has reduced my nasal inflammation. It is a cold light beam bright red lights up my nose like Ruddollffe Thr Reindeer. It may seem unlikely, I was willing to try anything, it seems to do something though. My stuffy nose is clear after two months of stuffy. I am now easing down the prescribed dose of nose spray. But going to continue with Nasal Beam, not medication and harmless. A year is far too long, to suffer with blocked sinuses, doctors are very understanding. Explain your situation, regards to your anxieties.
Regards to you Maureen
Thank you every one, I will make the appointment
And ya I feel the same, I don't like troubling people who probably have more things to worry about, and I sprit irate you all telling me what will be done, thank you
Hi -
Go see your GP, and ask to be referred to a sinus clinic (that will be an outpatients clinic at a hospital). Sinus treatment is specialised, and GPs don't have the equipment or the expertise to treat you.
Nasal polyps are a possibility (as well as a deviated septum, suggested below). Either way, it requires specialised examination (with an endoscope to start with - then probably an MRI scan)
the Royal National Throat Nose and Ear hospital in Gray's Inn Road in London specialises in these things - although the hospital looks very old-fashioned. Professor Valerie Lund is the key person - she runs a clinic there. Otherwise, Addenbrooke's in Cambridge is good - Mr McKiernan is the nasal specialist.
Good Luck!

Hi, I have same issue, mine is even worse, it doesnt allow me to talk, its killing my confidence. Can you please tell me what happened to yours?
HELLO I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM IS SURGERY IS THE ONLY WAY IM AFRAID OF SURGERY AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO....
Hello Jesse I have the same problem so you had surgery or something else please reply me if possible I'm so confused
Maybe your heart got problems or you have had a stroke before. I also have blocked nose after bathing or washing my face. I have tried nasal decongestants which does'nt work very well. Soak a clean cotton bud with a strong medicated oil like the Hong Kong Bai hua you. Something like a strong and hot medicated oil like Bai hua you. Slowly insert the soaked cotton bud into left nostril. Irritate the nostril for a while and you will start to sneeze a few times (2 to 3 times). Wipe off trapped water and mucus with a clean tissue. Continue to sneeze out all extra mucus inside left nostrils. Do the same for the right nostrils. Insert soaked cotton bud into right side nostrils
Sneeze a few times. Blow your nose gently to clear all the trapped mucus. Lastly followed by soothing your irritated nostrils with a vicks inhaler. Use the vicks inhaler to inhale deeply to soothe the nostrils. It can help clear your sinuses. Something like Bai hua you or using a strong and hot medicated oil will do. Blocked nose is dangerous just like having insufficient sleep or sleeping for very short hours. Both are equally dangerous to a person's health and could cause you some dizziness. Insufficient sleep or poor sleeping habits or blocked nose could endanger your health. So pls take good care of your health now. Merry Christmas and happy new year.
