My partner is depressed and says he no longer loves me, can it get better?

Hi,

I am really in need of advice. My partner of 8 years has recently become really withdrawn and has admitted that he is struggling with depression, stemming from a couple of traumatic incidents that happened 1 1/2 ago. He now says that due to the depression he has no ability to feel love for me, but that he wants to get help and try and get back to the way we were.

We are married and I want to do the right thing by him, but I am struggling so much with the up and down emotions and the hurt that comes with someone you love no longer loving you. We have a child together and I feel that I need to stay strong for everyone involved.

Has anyone else been through this situation, did the relationship get better once your partner received help, and how did you help the situation but still keep your mental health in check?

This is very common, so don't take it personally.

Your partner, being hyper-focused on himself at the moment (i.e. depression), is looking for too much from his own feelings right now. He actually doesn't know that he still loves you!

Well done you for persevering.
