I was wondering...does anyone has a funny burning feeling on the scar...did tkr Jan 28....been putting coco butter...when I lay on it also feels funny I guess is healing......
Hi Luz,
The feeling is just the nerve endings. I had a scar all the way up my finger and for a couple of years when I touched it it felt like it was buzzing. It had an odd sensation for years but is all right now.
Make sure the cocoa butter has vitamin E in it. That's the magic ingredient that makes the skin supple. My second tkr was 5th January and it's still awkward laying but getting better. Look towards the 12 week mark and you will see your improvement is measurable each day. You're only 5/6 week in and sound as though you're on the right track. Just remember concentrate on walking heel to toe slowly rolling through. It's not a race.
Thank you....yes heel toe...I do remind myself..and believe me I take my time.....is me time to heel.....I don't rush and ibid a lot of resting.....looking forward to a pain free summer
I had TKR 4 yeasrs ago so it is difficult to remeber that far back but I don't think I got burning sensation.
Hope you continue to improve.
Take care and keep in touch
Sarah
Yes is like when I go on my stomach it feels like numb....and burning this is just recent.....the scar is thin the Dr did a great job
I had both knees replaced January 20 and can relate. The scar was very tender last week and improving slowly. I tried kneeling on the bed and the feeling was horrible. My PT applied special tape yesterday because they have seen great results with lighter scars so fingers crossed. If your scar looks bright red or as they say, angry you should call your doctor to look at it. Cheers to feeling a lot better in the near future. I'm focused on what my future will look like to get me through the not so great times. Good luck.
I can only tell you my husband uses bio oil since his scar was 3 weeks old its now almost 9 weeks and the scar has healed lovely and is completley flat
You have both internal and external stitches healing at the same time but at a different pace. If all the scar has healed completely no drainage, no scabs remaining) you can use a number of products to rub in and massage. I've always used Vit E oil as it softens and heals internally and externally. I've been reading a lot of different analysis and I'm beginning to think maybe organic coconut oil might be a good way to go. Don't use things like baby oils and body lotions as they have no medicinal value.
As far as the feelings of touch. If you remember the way it looked when they first took off the bandage and The way it looks today you see the tremendous change. You will see equal healing changes in the next 6 weeks. The only thing to be concerned about now is any type of drainage, no matter how minimal. Stay focused on the process. These things will change and at times some of them will suddenly return. It isnt anything to be concerned about its just the body being in charge.
i wouldnt use coco butter on the scar use either vitiman E or bio oil , much better for the scar . scars can be very sensitive some people would find their scars have burning sensations .as long as the knee is not hot or the scar oozing then i would not worry
Yes bio oil great also flattens scar
Yes is some journey will never forget this I can't wait for better days.....been stiff and painful wishing you speedy recovery
Thank you!!!!
Thank you so much. Will be patient. And looking forward to being myself again
I've been using E45 cream and I have now been told to use bio oil ,,my scar is beginning to fade quite a bit now, I'm coming up to 12 weeks. I have numbness on the left side and that feels funny, and I was told the burning feeling is just the healing progress. Hope this helps . Best wishes Jannette
Don't do that the weird feeling is actually good news. Your scar that huge incision that is layers deep is healing. You are about to hit the 7 week mark they will start doing something different. Scared the crap out of me when they did it to me. Thought my knee cap was going to pop off. They will start having you massage your incision to get rid of scar tissue which is what you feel starting. It is all the healing process. Use liquid vitamin e. As long as you have no openings anywhere on your incision. They have massage cream it makes it easier to do. Vitamin e will help the scar.
Congratulations stuff starts to get easier at your stage. Just hard work bending that knee left.
Hi luz301.
I had a TKR 15 ekes ago and still sometimes get a burning sensation at times. As other have said, it's the nerves healing and can take quite a long time so I believe. I have used bio oil on my scar for 13 weeks which seems to help with the fading but not particularly with the discomfort.
Good luck x
Hi Luz
I had my surgery the same date as yours. My scar looks great the surgeon has done a good job. I had stitches as well. I don't get a burning feeling but it does get hot. The doctor said a bit of heat is OK as its blood flow and healing to the knee.
I massage with Bio oil. I then get a weird tingling feeling. Every one that sees the scar can't believe how soon I had my surgery. I am grateful to my surgeon for that. Just looking forward for that turning point.
The advice on here us fantastic. The people on here are my life line. Take care and hope you keep improving.
Jodie
