My son has just been told his lump on the back of his head needs to be removed as it could get bigger. He is going in for surgery in january 2006. He is 19yrs old and he is not looking forward to this surgery, I am not sure what this cyst is proberly a sabaceous cyst. He will have to have a biopsy too. The consultant said for us not to worry as it is a simple procedure. The lump is small and hard and does not bother my son at all. He has no pain with it and he would prefer not to have an operation! The consultant said he would not have to shave his head and would have afew small stiches.

I wonder why some consultants want to shave the head and some don't. Mine does and thats the main thing putting me off. Does anyone know why there is the difference in opinion?

I JUST HAD AN "EVASIVE MASS" REMOVED FROM THE BACK OF MY HEAD A WEEK AGO. IT FORMED 4 YRS. AGO. NEVER BOTHERED ME, UNTIL THE LAST MONTH OR SO. IT GREW MAYBE 5 TIMES OF THE ORIGINAL SIZE, IN A SMALL AMOUNT OF TIME. AND I WAS GETTING HEADACHES AND A STIFF NECK. IT WAS TOO LARGE TO BE DONE IN THE DR'S OFFICE, SO THE SURGEON PUT ME UNDER.
HE EXPLAINED BEFORE THE PROCEDURE THAT SHAVING THE HEAD CUTS DOWN ON THE RISK OF INFECTION. HE DOES NOT WANT TO DEAL WITH ANY
COMPLICATIONS BECAUSE OF HAIR IN THE WAY. HE SHAVED A LARGE OVAL SPOT ON THE BACK OF MY HEAD. I HAVE 20 STITCHES COMING OUT IN ANOTHER WEEK.
PATHOLOGY REPORT SAID IT WAS NOT CANCEROUS.
I WAS STUPID TO HAVE WAITED SO LONG.
I CAN WEAR A SCARF OR HAT FOR A BIT.
I AM GLAD IT IS REMOVED.
IF IT WASN'T FOR THE SICKNESS FROM THE PAINKILLERS,
THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN A PIECE OF CAKE.
I HOPE YOUR SON IS OK.

My daughter has a pea sized lump on the back of her head, the doctor has said come back in eight weeks she thinks it is a ball of fat. Scary to me especially with UK cut backs what do you think?
