My son is 2 and half and he has suffered with this condition since he was about 8 months old.

He has constant UTI's and is always in A&E, the surgeon in our area has advised he wants to wait until my son is a little bit older before he is circumcised, due to a high volume of people with ethnic origin wanting this procedure to be performed???

My son has pain on a regular daily basis and is on pain relief daily, alongside the Hydrocortisone cream which to me appears to be useless.

I have found putting him in boxer shorts and not briefs help him a bit, and letting him wee in the bath is less painful!

After visiting the same surgeon privately he agreed to perform the procedure but not on the NHS!

After spending yet another night in A&E with my son I am very angry that he is suffering unnecessarily due to hospital politics.

Circumcision is not the answer to this problem as there is no reliable evidence that circumcision is effective in reducing recurrencess of balanitis.

Recurrent balanitis is associated with excessive washing with soap[1] and this should be avoided. You should also avoid irritant chemicals such as bubble-bath or perfumed fabric conditioner. It is also important to avoid forcible retraction of a young child's foreskin as it may not become easilly retractable until the late teenage years.

Hi How have you got on hith your sons promlem? I am early 50's and have been diagnosed as having this problem, and do not want an opperation as I have enough surgery over the last few years.

I have what I think to be PCB (Zoons Plazma Cell Balanitis?), it started nearly 3 months ago, below are some dates and treatment ;-

06-02-08 Fucidin treatment four times a day after fresh water penile cleansing

25-02-08 Stopped Fucidin treatment started salt water cleansing and blown air drying.

07-03-08 Fucidin treatment four times a day after salt water cleansing.

13-03-08 Sudocrem treatment four times a day after salt water cleansing.

16-03-08 Sudocrem + Fucidin treatment four times a day after fresh water cleansing.

19-03-08 Sudocrem only treatment four times a day after fresh water cleansing

26-03-08 Noticed secondary lesions treating with layer of Sudocrem

Although the lesions are different (better?) with some scarring or Hyperpigmentation, It seems it can be with you for along time. I have an appointment with an Urologist soon, perhaps he may be able to help. In the meantime I have checked all the usual reasons for the disorder to occur and can not see I have been doing anything differently over the last 60 years or so, even the washing soap powder and cleansing regimes have not altered.

The local GP has given up after trying just one treatment, which is disappointing, in my opinion he could have tried other topical treatments recommended for this condition, whilst I am waiting for a specialist appointment.
