My son is suffering from anxiety disorder

Hi,

I’m a mother of two children, a boy and a girl. My daughter in grade 7 is excellent in studies and I’m much confident about her future. But, I’m a concerned parent too. My son who is in grade 3 is being excessively worried most of the time and have trouble sleeping at night. Last month, I took him to a child psychologist, and I was shocked to hear that he was a patient suffering from anxiety disorder.

After a long conversation with him, she found his worries are about the academic performance. He is not able to follow the school syllabus and hence always find it difficult to score higher in exams. I have noticed it several times, but I never forced him to do more than he could.

His teacher comparing him with other students was his main problem. The doctor asked me to give him special care and try different methods to help him in studies. I have a plan to provide a new educational atmosphere too. I have noticed a school offering GSE Preparation and Georgia Milestones Practice

( http://educationgalaxy.com/georgia-gmas-gse-preparation/ ) training for kids. I have searched more about the program, and they have mentioned, the test preparation program provides online assessment and practice for students in Grades K-5 to help build mastery towards the Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE). Would it be a better option for my son? Please help with your suggestions regarding similar training programs. Thanks in advance!

Worrying about your kids is the worst anxiety of all. Been there. You have to find your own customized answers for your child.

My son had ADHD as a kid. He is now just ADD as an adult. A doc gave him Ritalin as a young kid. I'll admit that I wanted to try it because he was out of control. After 2 days, I stopped it because my little boy was lifeless. I did a diet instead that helped control his hyperactivity.

He became ADD only in H.S. He was a smart student, but he had a H.S. calculus class that required a tudor. The tudor urged me to put him on Ritalin. From that time on, my son setup his own psychiatrist appointments to get the med. He said that the drug lifted a fog.

I have a grandson using a new form of Ritalin. I think he's too young for it. He was already in advanced classes. The complaint was about his impulsive reactions. Since then, it has been medically proven that he has epilepsy of the kind that causes his peculiar reactions.

He is not violent. His reactions are just odd. He's an animal lover who can't eat some meat, etc.

To me, he is just awesome sauce!

Heidi, just be one his side. Correct what you need to correct.

I think you have this, Heidi!

UGGG!!! I feel your pain, having psychological testing done on my 14 year old at the end of March (earliest they had) because her psychiatrist since 2012 just has no clue what is wrong with her. She was originally diagnosed with adjustment disorder when she was 6 then that evolved into an ADHD diagnosis with mood disorder unspecified. They still won't diagnose her with anything specifically. Well she has been having a lot of issues at school this year and her counselor at school had to call me the other day and inform me that she may or may not have had an anxiety attack. So now we wait for the testing and have stopped adderall to start strattera...uggg...I hate not being able to fix it for her.
