My stool just will NOT bulk up!

For the last 10 years my stools have been very small flat pieces when having a bowel movement. It ALWAYS leaves me with incomplete evacuation, and I ALWAYS have some level of discomfort and urge to go after every meal, snack and glass of water. After exercising and showering too. It’s driving me insane! It’s so uncomfortable, I never get any relief.

I have tried everything including the low FODMAP diet which helps a little but even when following that my stool is still just little pieces and I still have discomfort after meals. Metamucil adds a little bulk, but not much, and it too adds to my discomfort.

I don’t know what else to try other than maybe Amitriptyline since that is supposed to be quite helpful with those who have diarrhoea/urgency/loose stools. Does anyone have any experience with that?

Hi

No everyone has success with the FODMAP plan, not any other dietary changes until they realise that the cause is bile acid. By the sound of things for your stools to be the way they are, there is too much bile acid being produced by your colon.

To beat this start adding into your diet high alkaline foods and a couple of supplements.

Freshly juiced celery, 1/2 - 1pt daily each morning works wonders. Its 100% alkaline but needs to be juiced, not pulped. If you pulp it by either blending or using a nutribullet you will digest too much fibre. Beetroot, mango and a probiotic drink each day plus 1-2pts lemon water all help to de-acidify your colon.

You may also wish to add CoQ10 as a supplement. This helps rebalance the good/bad gut bacteria which so the cause of pain and discomfort, wind and bloating.

You can search for high alkaline diets on the internet. Aim for an 80/20 plate each meal, again details of this can be found on the intranet.

Give it at least 2 weeks to see a significant difference. Took me 21 days and since 9 October 2017 I've had no trouble at all - completely med free.

I wish you well.

I get what you mean. Ibhave very similar symptoms and when they come like that it gets me anxious which obviously make the bowel.problems worse. I have heard amitryptiline is good. Its worth a go. Good luck
