my story

Just want to share my story im 6 weeks post lthr feel great already know im going to be brand new in a month or so.

Im 36 got my first groin pain at 31 whilst still playing rugby thought it was just a groin strain so played through pain for 2 more years until i couldn't anymore. Got diagnosis OA in left hip sent me away said I was to young come back when the pain is to much . 18 months later walking with a limp physically struggling got a bit depressed due to how much I struggled physically.(going from a fit 117kg Athletic to not being able to walk properly).

Finally got surgery its the best thing I ever did the recover is by no means easy but if you eat well do your excercises and get mobile you will get there.

6 weeks in im like a ray of sunshine in my life not a Cloud in sight.

So if your reading this dont worry about the surgery just do it as the pain your in right now is much worse than all the recovery.

much love kev uk 36 with my life back

Hi,

What a lovely, positive story. Thanks for sharing Onwards and upwards

Janet

Thank you...how very encouraging and thoughtful of you!

Kind regards

Good for you what a posative story for all the newbies. I to was 42 and out of the blue developed a groin strain l suffered for a year before l could not take anymore. I just though it was a pulled muscle!!! After getting xrayed l was told l needed both hips replaced due to OA and l had been a normal active person uo to then. It will be a year on the 15th of this month since my 1st lthr and got my other done in february. My hips are great now you would not even know l have had them done some days other days l get a few tweeks and aches but nothing cimpaired to the OA pain. I thought l had my life back then to but unfortunatly they found out l had it bad in both knee's and they needed reolaced too. I had 1done in august and it was so much harder than getting my hips done. So l am having a break before l get my other done. I am back at work and walking not bad only my bad knee holding me back but hopefully l will get the guts to do it next year sometime. But 43 now and going to have 2 new hips and knee's but l am doing fine. But kevin is right the hip replacements are brilliant.

hi kevin,

wonderful post and so encouraging for newbies ....

you did have your share of challenges, didn't you ...

just want to put out a little reminder here and that is : we all heal at our own rate - it is an individual process -

congratulations, darling on a job well done

happy holidays and

big warm hug

Hi,

What a lovely ,positive story. Thank for sharing.

Madla☺

Great to hear Kevin. I am having thr left hip in Feb and I'm terrified so was good to hear such a positive experience. I've almost forgotten what its like to walk properly!

Great Job !!

Are you going to play Rugby anymore ?

I had my first THR, almost 4 yrs ago and I started playing hockey 11 months post surgery, & other sports at 3-4 months.

I had my other hip replaced just over 4 months ago, and started playing various sports at 3 months post op, still deciding on hockey.

So all ppl considering hip replacement or about to have it, these surgeries are common place and post surgery has some challenges, but YOU can do it.  As much presurgery excercise you can do for your hip the better.

Have a great day all

rugby is to much of a contact sport severe risk of breaking the implant and dislocation etc so no rugby but ill defo get into something else

Hi Kevin just want say what lovely story you have me feel a lot better toward it as I am going in hospital on this Friday 9th Nov 2016 I'm terrified as I have been in agony in pain in groin etc for just short of 2 year now it all started with a accident in Florida at my sons home falling had a fractured left hip on March 24th 2014 went to the hospital there and it was repaired was ok for the beginning but as times gone on it's not good now I am going to have a total hip replacement im a very nervous person also I'm not as young as you but been very active till now not got much faith in it because of all the pain but after reading your story it's give me hope to get my life back too thank you

Just keep going we all heal at different rates and I did a lot of leg and hip

excercise in preparation which helped. Ate well and drank 0 alcohol

Ha ha. First couple of weeks are tough but keep positive keep mobile

And listen to your body. Enjoy napping after a walk or excercise it's allowed.

Good luck

Kev

I figured no more Rugby.   Plenty of other sports to play !

Hi Kevin

So good to hear something positive

So good to hear somethig positive.  I am older thanyou though (62).  Just a number Isuppose.  Had a bad fall about 10 years agoad another two and a half years ago.  Had no idea problem until like you through from doing body pump had a groin sprain.  Pain not not as bad as it was at beginning of the year becase pelvis twisted itself ( I can see that when doing a low squat).  However recently whole body felt dreadful and felt like whole frame not right.  Saw osteopath yesterday and he made back do a loud click and at least back feels so much better now.  Just worried if joint colapses as that can mean even more major surgery.  S having LTHP on Monday.  Have been so concered as your story is so positive.  Maybe your age!

Can you feel the replacement or is your hip feeling more normal now?

Just worried about all the restrictions - concerned these are for life  was a very active person.

Anyway thank you for your positive post.  Gives me some hope.
