So, for some context - I like to rock climb quite a bit! I usually go 4-5 times a week and train quite hard. The last time I went (5 days ago) I felt a “pop” in my left hand and fell off the wall.
Later that night I noticed that my middle finger extensor tendon rolls off the knuckle when I make a fist. If I release the fist or try to extend it out quickly, it will snap back to place. It doesn’t really hurt apart from it being a little sore, and it hasn’t effected my grip strength or mobility in any of my fingers.
Unfortunately, my local orthopedic hand specialist wasn’t available, so I went to see a orthopedic plastic surgeon who also happens to be the PA of the hand specialist and they said that I likely tore a sagittal band and, while I could have re-constructive surgery, it shouldn’t effect anything down the line or my ability to climb.
Basically - I just want a second opinion. Should I be worried? Has anyone else experienced this?
3 week update - I’ve been climbing for the past few weeks pretty hard and, while it still is a little uncomfortable if i position my hand wrong, I’m perfectly fine. It hasn’t effected my daily life much at all so I’ve just decided to forget about it.
