I was recently told I need to have an open Myomectomy for a fibroid. I have a consult with a surgeon scheduled and am anxiously awaiting this. The one doctor said I may need to go back on birth control to regulate my cycle because the surgery can only be scheduled at a specific time of cycle. I’ve heard elsewhere that it can be done at any point during cycle. Does anyone which one of those is accurate?
It depends on the surgeon, it can be done at anytime mine said, but I delayed mine until a week after my period as I am at my strongest during that time. Also your not very mobile after an open myomectomy, so its not an ideal time to be having a period. If you do not have regular periods then the birth control or they could recommend something else may help you regulate your cycle. Best of luck with your surgery, its worth getting rid of fibroids.
I agree with f91864. I just had my myomectomy almost three weeks ago. It's hard trying to deal with the incision and your period. Everyone''s body is different. My period, which I am currently on, was horrendous the first three days. Lots and lots of bleeding and very painful. Others I've read have been light. Either way I would try to time it to where maybe you have at least two weeks after your surgery before it comes. Hope all the best for you.
