Nalmafene and driving

Is there anyone out there that is actively taking nalmafine and driving on it cos I'm having the unpleasant side effects of it and I drive for a living although I am only on tablet five and have been told it takes about a week to subside

I'm off sick but need to get back to work I just need to know if I will ever be able to drive on this medication

Hi John

Let's just say it seems to suit some better than others.  For me, I could not get beyond a feeling of alienation and depression that made me feel ill, disengaged and negative, along with some other unpleasant side effects that I have documented in a previous thread.  Others seem to persevere and breeze through.  I look forward to the Selincro antidote that makes you feel joyous! Meaanwhile, I think the answer lies more in sorting out your head, than in some magic pill.  Lots of good advice in these threads.

Good luck!

P.S. I did drive on it.....not recommended!

Thanks for the advice don't know wether to give it e week or stop it now how long before it's out of your system

Hi John,

My job involves a lot of driving. I too was concerned by the side effects. I felt dizzy/light headed and my concentration was poor for about two weeks. You just have to be extra vigilant, constantly mindful of your driving.

Best of luck, it's worth the effort.

Two weeks and after that ok

That's how it worked for me. This is my sixth week taking it and I feel fine.

And has it worked

at the moment I can either drink or not but i've been told that you have to drink when you are taking it

The whole point of the drug is to kill the pleasure you get from drinking, so you take it if you plan to have a drink. If not don't take it. For example, I didn't drink last night. Tonight I fancied a few glasses of wine with my steak, so I took a tablet at 6pm. I am now sipping my second glass and not all that bothered whether I finish it or not 7 weeks ago, I would have been opening a second bottle!!

I was drinking every day but i've been told to take a tablet every day until the side effects subside usually about a week or so

That's the advice I got too. The only thing about the drug is that it pretty much sucks the pleasure out of everything so, if you want to enjoy something other than drink, don't take a tablet that day.
