NASAL OBSTRUCTION FROM 19 YEARS

When I was 14 I caught flu (now I am 33). Since then my nose remained permanently obstructed. I have got no secretion from my nose, but rather the congestion is dry as always just one nostril is obstructed. When I lay to one side and the upper nostril is congested, slowly the congestion gets through the lower nostril. I have visited few doctors and passed through many examinations such giving bacterial probes, X Ray and allergen tests. The doctors I've seen consider different diagnosis as one of them said It is "hypertrophic rhinit", however all the doctors exclude sinusitis. Six years ago they made me electrocauterisation, but no change to my condition afterwards.

I would like to know about how and why this obstruction happens, so eventually I'll try to find a better treatment for myself.

Since a cold at Xmas I am experiencing the same, I have had a nasaloscopy and CT scan both are clear, I am having a dental CT scan tomorrow in the hope this throws up something.  I am currently using Sterimar nasal spray which helps keep my nose clear, I too would like an answer as I find it very hard at night to get any sleep.

I have years of nasal congestions, had turbinectomy but dodn't help.

I'm spending every day hours on the net reading and researching, with not much luck. 

It might be a the nerve damaged in the nose, and the blood vessels lost the ability to constrict. But that's just the end result, I found some articles about Vidian nerve surgery in treatment of vasomotor rhinitis, but that seems to be a last resort.

The only thing which could help when you are badly congested is pseudoeffedrine. The nasal decongestant sprays are no good, max 3 days use, after you get rebound effect. Tablets are ok if you don;t have high blood pressure or heart problems. In some countries you can get in in tea, if you travelling to Asia, or other contries, but not sure which countries have it, you could try it.

Otherwise just take the original pseudofed, not the PE!

Soon I have heard about some new method curing vasomotor rhinitis. It is based on electromagnetic waves with specific frequency applied.

Here, in Bulgaria I found only one specialist who use it, but I am not sure whether it would be efficient. Any ideas ?

I just don;t quite get that the table :outcome after radio-wave frequency treatment shows not much difference pre and post op, but in the conclusion it says 

"that radio-wave frequency

therapy is a low cost procedure that is easy to perform and

has an acceptably good long-term effect on nasal congestion

and other nasal complaints caused by turbinate hypertrophy

in patients with vasomotor rhinitis unresponsive to local

nasal steroid treatment."

I know that my 2nd ENT wanted to shrink my inferior tubinates , I think with the buther method, and also wanted to correct my deviated septum which according the 1st ENT is dead straigh!? 

As I understand from that study, and also my personal opinion, it only gives a temporary relief, if gives any relief at all.

And again it's because it's treating the symptom, not the cause.

According to the study, it's a safer procedure that the other (buther) methods and can be repeated.

I will certainly dig deaper and find out more info about this treatment.

It's definately interesting and worth to thing about it.
