Thought that maybe some of you would be interested in this Facebook page that I have only just discovered today. There is an interesting blog by someone calling themselves hippychick (not me) that details her experience pre and post op. She also seems to be a patient representative for the NJR. Don't know too much about it but looks good. Anyway sun is shining today and have been for my longest walk so far. Went down to our beach and haven't been that far for maybe 6 or 7 months. Sat on a wall which was about the right height and felt quite good. A man came along and commented that my sticks looked a bit short and adjusted them for me which made all the difference. Thank you man. Had felt a bit anxious last night, seem to spend my time worrying about dislocation, infection etc etc. better day today.
Can't find that facebook page - do you have a link? Pleased the man helped you out with the sticks - random acts of kindness go a long way.
Not very sure how to put the link on here but I just typed in National Joint Registry into the search bit on Facebook and up it came. It came to me today as a suggested site for me to like. Hope this helps.
They also have a website www.njrcentre.org.uk. Seems to be for England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Don't know if Scotland has its own one. Will find out.
They also have their own website. Tried to put link on but it is waiting to be moderated
Hi. Thank you for this link. Glad to hear you are doing well and believe me it will just get better. I am 6 months post op and wish I had a beach near me where I could just take off with my dog, it will be just what you Need for the rest of your recovery. Just go careful if it is a pebbly beach as it plays havoc with the hips. Good luck though.
Hi Hippiechic, congratulations on your walk, that is my goal and dream, to go for a nice walk. I think its normal to be worried about potential problems, I think it is good that we are educated, but sometimes ignorance is bliss. I now have a file almost 2 inches thick, its all regarding what I should and should not be doing in the next 3 months. Problem is I am a type A personality so I HAVE to get it right. I have spent hours ready that stuff. Doesnt sound as though you are anything like as bad as I am. The sun is also shining here. I am very glad I had this surgery now and not in the winter, the sun cheers me on. Wishing you all the best. Lorraine.
Well done on walk to beach, Oh!, if only I could walk to a beach, living in Rugby, centre of UK, nearest beach east coast two and half hours away, I also did my longest walk yesterday, and today went to a shopping/garden centre and walked all shops as well then ventured in for a pot of tea and scone, and managed ordinary chair, so well pleased today, I will check Web page out on Facebook, thanks for that, and what a gent for helping to adjust crutches, well done him. Good luck keep up the good work and enjoy those walks.
Well done Hiipiechic you are doing really well. I signed a form in hospital to say that the NJR could use my info so I will away to Facebook to see what they are saying.
Hi Hippiechic! Wonderful moments like you described are such a blessing! So happy for you. Wish I had a beach too. My road is heavily traveled by people who disregard the 25 mile speed limit. There are no sidewalks either so I have to navigate uneven shoulders beside the road. So I do not walk as much as I wish to. I will check out that site you shared.
Hope you have many more enjoyable walks! Oddly, there was a man who helped me adjust my cane too.
No the beach is sandy. I did not try to walk on the sand but wonderful looking out to sea. Very peaceful. Haven't tried taking the dog out yet however.
Hi Lorraine. Nice to be out and part of the world again. Have spent too long in my head. Not a good place to be! Lol. Golden retriever walks are so much better. Not tried taking him out yet as he does not always do as he is told. Leaving that to hubby at present. A bit nervous around dogs at the moment in case they jump up. That is me worrying again.
Well done Janet. I haven't tried a normal seat yet. We are really lucky to have a beach with beautiful views out to sea made all the better with some warm sunshine after the heavy rain of the past week.
Will look out for you on the site. Hope your first day home still going well.
This site is a UK one although it does not cover Scotland. We seem to have the Scottish Arthroplasy Register. I haven't looked at that one yet. Was a lovely day today.
Very interesting Hippiechick! Thanks for the link!

Still in Rehab, thought i may have go e home but Dr said no maybe next week, he said I raise my hips when i walk?????? when was your op? I am now 5 weeks on Tusday. xx
I know how you feel re the doggies, it will be awhile before I will be playing or walking with mine. We are so lucky to have nice hubbies to do the dog walking. Mine are usually with me all day, but I am still feeling very fragile and cant deal with 3 bouncy Goldens. Cant wait to get back to our normal life. This will happen. yountake care. L.
