Natural approach for hypo

Anyone refusing to take the meds for hypo And going to NPD ? Along with different supplements she also wants me to try acupuncture. She wants to treat my lungs, liver and bring the thyroid under control as well. I have a list of foods not to eat and a list of foods to eat. She gave me a list of several supplements to buy. None of which she is selling, only the acupuncture from her. And some probiotics.

GP did TSH (6.5) and T3, T4 as well, they were normal. He prescribed levo and I asked for a Endocrinologist instead. She prescribed levo just off of the tests and did not do any new tests. 75 mg to start. I called to say I was worried about taking so much, she said you can cut it in half then. And wanted me to retest in 4 to 6 weeks I also ask her if she could test my vitamin D at that time. No other tests were ordered.

Since then I've started reading and I'm not sure I want to go that route. She wanted me to retest in 4 to 6 weeks. I also ask her if she could test my vitamin D at that time. No other tests were ordered.

Since then I've started reading and I'm not sure I want to take levo at all. If I do end up taking the meds I am leaning towards Armour.

Katz

Dear Katz:

I am an RN -and live in the USA.  I suffer with Hashimoto's Thyroid Disease.  I have heard of acupunture helping in Diabetes and Nerve problems in the body.  My husband used it for a pinched nerve from a bulging disc and it worked!!!  The funny thing was all the strong pain meds did not work.

I do believe it can help. I don't really know how it will do for the thyroid but it sounds like it can.  As to your LEVO, I think you meant 75 mcg (micrograms) that is a bit much for a start level, usually 25 mcg to start.

Normally they want 2 bad blood results in a 6 month period. Normal TSH is 0.34 to 5.60.   if your T3 and T4 were good/normal,  I don't see why you need 75mcg?  TSH is not the best way to diagnose a person.  Are you having any symptoms?

I took Armour for years, because my body was not absorbing  the LEVO and it gave me awful side effects.  Armour was fine.  It worked on me, but became hard to find n USA, at my local pharmacy.  I am now on T3 only, Liothyronine.

I am interested if acupunture helps so keep us all posted if it works.

Be well,  Shelly

Yes, I meant micro milligrams.

I am having symptoms but as the endo doctor said they could be from something else entirely. The only way to tell is if I take the levo and then the symptoms go away you would know it was from thyroid.

NPD said she will treat the liver, kidney, thyroid lungs, heart and weight by food, supplements and acupuncture. Medical doctors have told me I have a fatty liver, no kidney problems that I know of, hypothyroid, emphysema, SVT, and overweight by 30 pounds.

I am a non-smoker. I took a breathing test and the person that gave that test said I do not have emphysema. But the person that read the lung x-ray said once my lung is expanded it doesn't go back into shape, which is signs of emphysema.

In 2006 I had a high TSH level. For a period of six years my levels were normal. Four years before, and 2006 high and then 1 yr after, normal. Then I did not have another test until this year and it was high. T3 and T4 never tested before.

NPD has ordered another test, thyroid antibodies and RT3.

She wants to do acupuncture weekly for 6 to 8 weeks. Of course this is all pending on my insurance.

Katz

Hello Katz:

Soe of the symptoms of a low thyroid can act like another condition.  Symptoms can be weight gain, lowtemp, dry skin, brain fog depression or feeling blue, muscle aches, feeling cold, and being tired all the time.

It is best to have T3 and T 4 levels checked and to have the antibodies test for  Hashimoto's.   I have Hashimoto's.

I hope acupuncture  helps  - also if you  have a fatty liver  avoid alcohol.

Be well,  Shelly
