does anybody know of natural treatments or any sort of help to get me out of depression I have had depression for years and had a bit of a crap life really apart from getting married 2 nd time and having a his baby. 24 yrs wed .
its just I'm wondering what else I can make myself be happy as the past always rears its ugly head and it's getting more positive. About stuff in my head. I will be taking citalopram today what are they like good or not ? Did they help you ?
There are some medications that are herbal, like Rhodiola or Valerian Root. However, I've noticed that if I take them too late, they won't really help me much. Out of other things, I would recomment any physical activity and just doing as many things that bring you joy as possible. I also read a lot of encouraging and inspirational quotes and books and maybe uplifting music. Whenever you start thinking about something negative, try to replace those thoughts with something positive. I wish you the best of luck!
st john's wart...but I wouldn't mess with it unless you've talked with your doctor about it. just because it's "natural" it should be monitored since you've already been treated for depression. Good luck

Hi Tinkara ~
With all due respect, isn't valerian a sleep aid? That's what use it for in the US. Not sure about the Rodiola, cannot object to something I know nothing about. Anyway, I do agree that physical activity is a great displacement of feeling low, but , what if you cannot exercise due to disabilities caused by an auto accident? What would you suggest should one cannot exercise?

Hey Frustrated,
Yes, Valerian root can be also used for sleep aid, even though whenever I take it, it never makes me sleepy, but it does calm me down. Rhodiola is similar. I've used both when feeling down.
If one can't exercise due to disabilities, I would suggest reading anything positive, encouraging, inspirational or maybe something that makes you laugh (watching comedies or such). In any case, what I've found the most helpful (for me) is anything that takes my mind off of negative thoughts and replacing those thoughts with something positive. It's not an easy thing to do and it helps a lot if you have supportive people around you. Also, for me it helps to write about my feelings, letting go all of the anger, frustration, sadness,... whether I choose to share that with someone or just writing down for the sake of venting. Hope you can find some of those things useful / helpful. The best of luck!
I cannot agree with you more regarding finding something to read. I've recently found the author Rick Warren and he has so many life quotes that you can say, "oh, I love that" and it makes sense to well, to me. His one book ― Rick Warren, The Purpose Driven Life: What on Earth Am I Here for? His beliefs are to find your purpose by mistakes made in the past. It's quick and refreshing. I've placed markers on my favorite quotes and refer to them daily. So yes, a good book is very helpful. Thank you!!

I'm glad to hear that. Thank you for your suggestion about that book! I'll definitely check it out as I love reading. Are you familiar with "The Great Book Of Best Quotes Of All Time"? A couple of books that I really liked are "What About the Big Stuff?: Finding Strength and Moving Forward When the Stakes Are High (Don't Sweat the Small Stuff Series)" by Richard Carlson and "If Life Is a Game, These Are the Rules" by Cherie Carter-Scott. I also receive daily quotes from ______.
Thanks and best wishes!
Tina
