Well woke up this morning and felt I had been run over by a double decker bus !!! Felt sick with the pain and have had to rest all day.
The reason for this .... I really overdid it yesterday .... walked a long way, shopped, drove a little for the first time, then went out last night, so walked again (Oh and whilst out last night I also did stairs, which living in a bungalow I hadnt done before).
I am just about 6 weeks post op, so just to let all you hippies out there, we are not wonder men/women, even though I thought I was !!! lol Dont do too much at once !!! I felt so rotton today I even had a little cry and felt down.
Am now feeling OK, but I will be more careful in future and thats my lesson learned !!!
Hi. I did something similar - walking and shopping on 2 consecutive days. Body told me I overdid it, so I then realised my limit. Just started driving and again I get the signal from the hip when it has had enough!
I am not very patient with myself, but am learning to be and also know now how important it is to the exercises.
now if only I could get sorted when trying to sleep. Have to alternate between back and sides, then get too hot with having to have a cushion between knees as well.
good morning ... been there and still doing that .... grmpfffff .... it just feels so good, doesn't it ???? more energy and hardly any pain ? hopefully I learned from this too and will hold back a little - right now not feeling all that great ...have a great day and big hug
It's called Pacing yourself and its something I'm useless at doing.
I've decided that if I've done something that I've enjoyed and suffer the next day.......its worth it........BUT if I've overdone with too much housework or something like that.....IT'S NOT WORTH IT
I'm assuming you enjoyed yesterday.....the pain will soon go
little by little, walking, talking stairs, simply being in and enjoying life, you're body will get stronger and stronger as you heal, which apparently can take up to 6 months.
so, think of it as your two steps forward, then just once back: going in the right direction!
Aw Mic ... you are right .... looking at the things I can do instead of grumbling when it doesn't go as fast as I want ....and continue to move forward ...
Yep, its all about pacing yourself and not being too impatient. I tackled proper stairs at 6 weeks as we live in a bungalow, and went to stay at my daughters for a long weekend. I actually found the stairs much easier after the op than before it, as I practically had to crawl upstairs before. You can give yourself a pat on the back for the stairs, but just do one thing at a time in future, we may be part bionic but not altogether superhumon!
Hi Nadine! Please slow your pace down! Its so easy to over do things! I am 11 weeks post op and even now still feel tight at the top of the hip! I am having regular spa treatment excerise as the hydrotherapy place is fully booked! Also am having regular reflexology as well. It can take up to a year to get back to normal! So please take it easy! Regards Amanda
I think we all must have done the same thing at some point Pauline, I'm feeling much better today (note to oneself ..... think before doing anything) lol xxx
Thanks for the warning Nadine. It's easy to get carried away when you feel a bit better. I'm around the same stage. I had 1 day last week which scared me, I did quite a bit more than usual and got pain in my upper leg, muscles didn't like it. It was gone the next day, but I'm pacing myself now.🍹
