Hello all,
I’m a 19 year old female, and over the course of the last 17 hours or so, I’ve ad unbearable nausea. I suspected I was starting to get the flu, or some sort of bug, but my nausea only occurs when standing up. When I lie down, I feel completely fine. I’ve been gagging on and off since the nausea started, like my body is trying to get me to throw up, but so far, nothing has happened. I was wondering if maybe the nausea could be anxiety related, since I do have health anxiety, but I haven’t had a panic attack in a few days (Thank God). Literally the only symptom I have is the nausea, and when I do stand up, I feel so dizzy, I have to shut my eyes. There’s also no chance I could be pregnant. I’m really worried, my health anxiety has run through every possible answer on Earth, and I’ve managed to terrify myself. Has anyone had anything like this before? All help is greatly appreciated. Thank you everyone.
Hello,
this sensation can be caused by headache, but more likely by something minor as mild gastritis when accompanied by vomiting. The gag reflex itself is usually not a sign of anything significant and it can easily be the pointer towards health anxiety, where all of the symptoms are exacerbated and many times new ones arise by involving OCD. You basically get anxiety attack when encountering some random symptom and your anxiety+OCD takes over and replicate it. If you are not sure what is going on, visit your GP or try to cure te mild gastritis by short course of probiotics. Do not panic in the first place.
Take care,
Martin
I would not be surprised you have developed an upper chest infection, affecting your ears, that would throw off your balance, that in it self can make you feel sick, and that also would explain why you feel OK lying down.
Do you have a headache, drippy nose, or blocked nose, sore throat, all symptoms of a virus, you may even run a temp, boil the kettle, put the water in a clean jug, let it cool and sip, couple of litres a day minimum, and stay in bed for a day or so, unless your temp gets very high, then you may need anti biotics from Dr.
Ask your doctor about Labyrinthitis which can cause nausea, dizziness and lack of balance. Middle ear infections can cause these symptoms because the middle ear deals with balance. The fact you get these symptoms when standing up suggests an ear infection. Anxiety can also cause nausea and dizziness too.
