I recently suffered a burst duodenal ulcer, having no experience of the supposed \"symptoms\" which one is expected to have such as blood in the stools etc etc. I felt pretty sick & had been experiencing extreme stress & therefore put it down to the stress. The 1st I knew about it was waking in the night from sleep & feeling very sweaty & hot & slightly sick. I walked to the bathroom & promptly passed out. When I came round about an hour & half later I had been sick, but it was all \"black\" not red blood.
I rang an ambulance as I had passed out & thought it scary, I didn't realise I had vomited blood - let alone FRESH blood. Had I gone back to bed or ignored it I would be dead now. In all I lost 4 x pints blood, but didn't know that at the time, and was hospitalised for a week. Since then I have had a lot of trouble with my system getting back to normal & am on medication for the ulcer. In hospital they gave me an endoscopy & injected adrenalin straight into the ulcer (which was large) but I am not on any antibiotics for the heliwotsit... bacteria & also have been suffering from a bad chest infection. I had this before the bleed & it hasn't gone away.
My GP wont prescribe anti-biotics & I think they would help the condition quite a lot. He just keeps telling me i'm suffering from anxiety & I think that's part of the cause but not ALL.
Just curious if you are recoverd
JP
I too would like to know if you are ok now. My son has just been diagnosed with duodenal ulcers and I am very anxious about him. Do let us know how you are now. Terjo
Yes thanks i've recovered fairly well & have been on a high dose of Lansoprasol for the last two years - only discovered this post again by accident. Found out by trial & error that one of the key foods which annoy the ulcer is milk ... everyone will tell you that it calms it, but it hasn't with ME it makes it v sore indeed. No further bleeds though luckily.
Hi Terjo,
My son has just had 2 burst duodenal ulcers and would like to ask how your son is now and what age he is as I am also very anxious. He has been ill since April and just found this site.
My teenage son had exactly the experience you had TWICE this year. He had a negative hpylori result and is on high dose omeprazole. Can I ask how you are now as I am worried sick.
I have gone through the sort of same thing and also had hole in stomach , bowels and stomach had completely seperated due to all the sickness. I suffered 8 years in and out hospital with no answers then whe. Things got really bad I needed resuscitated and emergency theatre . In hospital for months in high dependency . Doctors don't take this serious Untill they have no choice and it's a matter of life and death. I also have gastroparesis now.x
