Need advice

Hi I have elevated calprotectin at 338, brown mucus, anaemia and severe right lower abdomen pain. I’m on tramadol for this. Can anyone help? Is this typical of crohns or IBS ?

If you have been diagnosed with crohns yes they can be indications of a flare and you need to contact your BID nurse

Hi, I’m currently going through the same thing at the moment. My Calprotectin levels are high and I’m anemic. The doctors say that having a high Calprotectin levels is a good indicator of Crohns. Are you seeing a Gastroenterologist? They should be able to do more tests and then diagnose it.

Hi my experience has been that a typical flare gives abdominal cramp pain that is severe but intermittent. I have also had a severe pain that was persistent and was due to an abdominal abscess. Quite a different type of pain like an appendicitis. An abscess is not so common but needs urgent treatment. Probably an ultrasound scan and then drain the abscess. If you think it could be an abscess see your GP.

Hope this helps and you get diagnosed soon.

Hi Thankyou, I’ve been to my GP and he’s not really interested as he doesn’t it’s ibd as I don’t have loose stools

I've just replied to the post you'd made elsewhere in this group. Not 100% of IBD suffers have loose stools. Sure, there's a reduced likelihood if you're working on probabilities but it's your quality of life at stake. I believe you said you were seeing a gastroenterologist (as they've need to be involved for colonoscopy / pill cam) - so ignore the GP for now! If you're not seeing a gastroenterologist - then make sure you fight for one!
