Am coming up to the end of nine weeks after my right hip was replaced. Doing well and now driving. Problem is I no longer have physiotherapy and so cannot ask them and the registrar was unable to answer my questions when I had my post op check up at six weeks.
So hoping some of you out there can help me
1. When can I start to bend down normally and put on shoes, paint my toenails etc
2. When can I discontinue having the pillows between my knees for sleeping..... have only just moved onto the un-operated side.... have been sleeping on my back which has caused my heels to be extremely sore and red Cannot lie on operated side yet as too sore.
3. When can I start working in my garden again and bending and kneeling down
4. When can I start to climb into the shower ( over the bath) without using the bathboard the hospital supplied and which has to be returned along with the toilet risers after twelve weeks.
I have both hip done one is 14 yrs old the other done in 2011 .
at or about six weeks staring therapy to build up strength in the legs the PT advised me both times when it was safe for me to doo most of the movements u describe usually after a few months. It always individual .
Sorry UR have this ahead of u. I wish u well and follow thru with the dr instructions and PT and take it easy & don't over do.
I'm 7 weeks post op and doing great can cut and paint my toe nails have been bending slowly from about 3 week was told at my 6 week clinic appointment to start doing things as normal but not to go back to the gym till 3 month but can go on a bike swim and can sleep on my side and stomach so pretty much all but we are all different and recover in different way hope that helps
You will probably hve all the answers now 6 weeks tends to be the norm {In the UK anyway} to stick strictly to the 90 degree angle, sleep on your back etc. After that we go by what the physiotherapist says,,,,,,,,just very gently get back to normal.
