want to come off off coadamol dont know where to start any advice do i go doctors or do it a different way
Hi Cheryl,
Just stopped my 12 a day habit, it's hell but can be done. I just stopped went cold turkey. You can use other treatments to help with your symptoms. Calcium supplements stop the restless legs, lemsip for flu symptoms and immodium for the dhiorea. Am at 3 weeks now. Getting easier everyday. Also Google Thomas recipe. If you need any help or someone to talk to message me. It's very hard and I wish you all the luck in the world.
Sorry Sheryl not Cheryl,
Also dr may refer you to drug abuse as opiate addiction x
thank you hun for your reply that i am on 10 a day the longest i can go without then is 12 hours
Yes its hell I totally understand. I was off work I was that ill on day 3. Wish I hadn't started in the first place. Was so worried about the amounts of paracetamol too. It's going to be hard but could save your life in the long run. It's evil the flu like symptoms the diarrhea. People do tapper down over weeks tried l did try that but just caved. Let me know how you get on x
ok hun i will thank you for your help people dont relise how addited they are they put me on them as getting migraine
did you go through your doctors or your own way
Hi did it myself and asked on here just like you have, got loads of tips the threads should still be on here. I couldn't face the Dr to embarressed and heard on here they are not very sympathetic as its addiction. Shouldn't prescribe it in the first place
totally agree with you sorry asking you so many question hun
I strongly disagree. I have been on them for 15+ years and never had any signs of addiction or dependency. Have never taken more than 6 in a day and am very grateful to them for keeping me mobile and no longer housebound. Why would you be embarrassed to face the doctor if you think it is his fault for prescribing them? Unless of course you have been taking more than you should and getting them from somewhere other than your GP
i not so much embrassed about going doctors but only get 50 a month now and have to buy rest from chemist just worried that will stop them altogether i am on them for migraine
Why only 50 a month and pay for the rest? Per month I have two prescriptions of 100 each and use between 100 and 150 per month and don't pay for any extra. If it is for migraines are you sure this is the right painkiller for you. My sister and I both get migraines and have both been prescribed beta blockers to control them and they do work.
beacause i was getting 224 a month then they cut it down to 100 i agred to 100 then they cut it again what beta blockers are you on
i dont think it is the right tablets but that was the only opition they gave me and when i go hospital they give me coadamol just dont know what to do anymore
Well that's your opinion and you are welcome to it. Thousands get addicted to cocodomol and this lady Sheryl was saying she can't stop taking them. I have had horrendous withdrawal symptoms. She asked what other people did to get off them. I have spoke to so many people who have broken the cycle on here and had so much support. This lady is clearly wanting to stop. Nice to be judged by someone who's fortunate not to have got addicted.
I am on propanolol and my sister is on atenolol. As Cocodamol are obviously not working for you, it probably is worth talking to the doctor about alternatives. Have you ever spoken to a consultant about your migraines. I know in york we have a migraine clinic, maybe you have one in your area.
Hi Sheryl,
It can be done with sheer willpower by just stopping but it is extremely hard however that will depend on how many a day you are taking and what strength? You can also mention this to your doctor and they can prescribe you Codeine Phosphate which is just pure Codeine with no Paracetemol as it is the Paracetemol that do the most damage to your liver. I wish you all the best on which ever way you attempt to go about this and I hope to one day read that you have conquered this horrible demon.
Hi Loiselane,
I am also now 10 days clean of Codeine however the only thing left that is still causing the problems are restless legs and they're really bad I am lucky to get any sleep at all what supplements do you reccomend?
Thanks
It's surprising you know how sympathetic they actually are like yourself I was embarrassed but after doing research online I found that in 2010 there was around 400,000 people in the UK addicted to over the counter drugs especially Codeine based and by 2014 that had risen to 2.2 million. I then realised just how big a problem this was and thought that doctors and the NHS must be aware of this and to be fair they were and handled it very well.
I was 30 -40 a day solpadiene max habit as doctor had cut me off from Co codomol ended up I didn't chose to come off them willing forced after accidental overdose which landed me in hospital and then family became aware now haven't had one since 12 th of Jaunary but I am on a drug therepy programme which isn't the answer for everyone but worth speaking over doctor with as they may help you taper dowN in a safe way which reduces the chance of relapse. You can kick these drugs chixk we are here for each other in the bad times and celebrate the good. First step admitting you have a problem so well done you can only go upwards from now x
