This question has nothing to do with PMR. And I hope you all don't mind but I thought it might be a little break from the misery that e all suffer. My son bought me a DNA test for Christmas. I have not gotten the results back yet but they have a ton of info online. In any event I have discovered that my father's side of the family came from England I always thought it was Ireland and some of them did come from my Ireland but I have some ancestors from England in a place called Norwood Surrey. Can you all tell me a little something about it? I also have some family that came from Wales, another country in the UK.

If you google Norwood Surrey you will get a load of links to it on genealogical sites as well as ones about its history. It is in Southeast London - so very urban.
Do you know where in Wales? Most of Wales is mountainous - little ones though. But as a result the regions tend to be quite insular and differ from each other because travel wasn’t easy.
Moe, Wales. Does that mean anything to you? I haven’t looked this town up yet but I did Google Norwood. The only thing that came up was about its history. And quite honestly I did not do much searching. I was kind of wondering what it was like in modern days. And then I remember a website full of people that live there. LOL I will do more reading.
It’s like most of south London! It’s close to Crystal Palace - you’ll get pictures of there I imagine.

I’m not at all sure. That’s what someone else had listed when doing their own genealogy. I will have to do more digging to see what others have listed. So far the only other mentions I’ve seen only listed Wale and not a more specific location. there’s a lot of digging to be done. I now wonder if Moe was an acronym. Well as I said I’ll be looking into that as well but thank you so much for trying EilenH
Hi Amkoffee, try looking up Mold in North Wales. I think that might be the one you are looking for.
I’ll bet your right. Some of the records on census data are very difficult to read. They were all written in Adobe writing. And even though I was brought up reading and writing cursive (most American schools don’t teach it any more.) these records are especially difficult to read because they’re very flowery . Probably was common in the1700 and 1800 and 1900. In addition the record are rife with wrong information. and don’t even get me started on my mother’s side of the family because her mother’s family was from Germany and my grandfather side of the family was from Russia. Both families came through Ellis Island. Russia is not very fourth coming with records.

Interested in your cursive writing. How much of the style has remained with you?. I’m a great fan of Marion Richardson and, although I learned bog standard printing as a child, as a teacher I used M.R. and it changed my writing for the better. Not as decorative as cursive, of course.
( Sorry, this is off piste again; hope I’m not annoying too many.)
Having never been a teacher I’m afraid I don’t know the cursive method I was taught. Quite honestly never knew there were differences. I will say that my very favorite letter of the cursive letters is the letter q. I wanted to see how many times I could say the word letter in one sentence. It would seem three times. Lol
