I had a very turbulent relationship that lasted around 3 years and that is when my anxiety started. In the last year it has got increasingly worse, nowadays i struggle to leave my house due to worry of having an attack, i'm on around 3/4 attacks a day, with no cause. Its leading me to avoid social contact with my friends, and due to my anxiety i am convincing myself they all hate me etc, which adds to the negative feelings i can only link with depression. I wouldn't go as far as saying i have suicidal thoughts, but they are definitely negative and scaring me. I have been to the doctors and diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder and sent on my way. It has such a tight grip on my life its effectively stopping me doing anything and i'm terrified ill ruin everything because i'm so scared. Please if anyone has any advice it would be very welcome. Thank you.
Hi Amy,
I'm sorry to hear that you are having such a tough time at the moment.
You said that you have been to see your doctor and were diagnosed with GAD. Did your doctor not suggest any form of medication or therapy?
Lisa
Thank you i really appreciate that.
Im 22 and was doing my university last year exams, and they put it down to that. Everytime i go there in regards to a mental health issue they put it down to everyday life and my age. I took that in and tried to get through it, but the severity of the attacks and the fear to leave my 'safe house' is leading me to believe there is a stronger reason behind it. Its just terrifying not being able to understand whats happening.
Amy, you really need to go back to your doctor (a different one if need be) and try to make them understand the severity of your problem and how much it is now affecting your everyday life.
I dare say that because you're young they don't want to jump to conclusions too quickly and are hoping that it will pass without the need for any intervention but from what you are saying this has already been going on for a long time and it is affecting your life dramatically.
Some people (myself included) are predisposed to anxiety and depression and simply need help to be able to lead a normal life and get it under control.
I was only 19 when I was first put on medication and am still on it to this day. It really does help to get those overwhelming feelings under control. As like me you have anxiety issues a sedating anti depressant like mirtazipine could really help you (or something else i am no expert). Dont feel that you would be on medication for ever you may only need to take it for a few months to get this problem under control.
Anyway please consider going back to see a doctor as you shouldn't be left to suffer like this,
take care
lisa
