I have just found out I have Left Dysplastic Hip with Labrel Tear, Im due to have an MRI Scan this coming Tuesday, depending on the outcome I will be referred for the POA.
Im a single parent with 2 young children so im worried what will happen with them if I have to have the procedure.
Ive googled it & it says a 4 day stay in hospital, is this correct?
The recovery at home will be difficult aswell as ive no one to help with the children.
Im a NHS patient not private, I will be going to Wrighington Hospital in Wigan, does anybody know how long the waiting list is, I know it will vary from county to county xx
Zoe
I do know that Wrightington is a brilliant hsoptial and looked after my dad with a new hp very well. You can usually google waiting times for the hospital - mine is 8 weeks from decision to operate to operation, in the Birmingham area.
Looking after a family afterwards is hard - as bending down and moving around is restricted. Anticipate you will be tired and tire easily for the first few months and let yourself off as much housework and kids as possible. Pull in every favour you can - and let yourself do this because you know you would do the same for someone else
Good luck x
Sorry Zoe but what is POA?
ok it is not easy you need to talk to ocupational theraphy. my grand son whowas ten at the time was in year 6, we had moved in the Januaryto a bungalow and I used to drive him th 5 miles to school the lea agreed to provide a taxi door to door.Other solution is to stack your freezer with ready meals and order on line.. ask your consultant to write to physio to ask to visit you at home several times in the early weeks . you need to talk to the community physio service there solutions talk to your gp after all he wont be wanting to make home visits. good luck
Hi Zoe..I had my 1st THR at Wrightington 6mnths ago and apart from the first 12wks I have recovered well.
the only thing I would do differently is to make sure I get to see my surgeon next time.
I am seeing a consultant at Wrightington in a few weeks to arrange a THR on my other hip.
I wouldn't go anywhere else now.
I would definately plan in advance to get help with young children, although they might surprise you in how helpful they can be.
Hope it all goes well.
Forgot to say my op was 12wks after my first consultation..
Nobody can predict your recovery time everyone's different, but the younger you are the quicker the recovery..
I recovered from a gall bladder op in about 4wks..but that was 30yrs ago.
My hip op took about 8wks,but I managed on my own in the 3rd week without much trouble.
Your hospital stay may vary depending on the surgery you're having.
Consult with your physician/surgeon for more information.
Im in the United States New York City and our surgery and recovery period is different. Hospital stay also vary mine for the THA was two day stay.
At home I had a nurse and physical therapist visiting me for 5 weeks.
After that is outpatient PT for 6 weeks.
Oops..8weeks recovery time that is..
Hi Zoe
Not sure if my last post came through but I had an arthroscopy on right side and am due a PAO and I have two Young children. The arthroscopy tho was fantastic in my opinion. Yes crutches but pain wise it was really easy to manage with just paracetamol and just having to be careful with movement was the key. Static bike was great and a stress reliever and target. Getting kitted out with 'aids' the main thing, a little rucksack etc but actually everything was way more doable than I had thought poss. Are your children potty trained?
Hope you're ok.
Zoe
Thanyou forall the replies,
I had my Arthrogram & MRI this morning, I dont handle needles very well but was surprised that the initial injection didnt hurt, the 2nd that had to go to joinr really hurt, then having the dye put in hurt even more :-(
The MRI itself was fine, all in all i was in & out in less than 2 hrs, in some discomfort now though.
Ive spoken to a few close friends & they have all offered to help me with my 2 children, they are 4 & 7 so can do things for themselves like getting dressed etc my main concern was them being looked after if & when I go in & getting them to & from school in the weeks / months that i cant drive.
Thankyou all for your tips & advise, I hope you are well & getting stroger every day xx
Hi juliette, POA is Periacetabular Osteotomy, they cut the bone & pin it back in the correct place x
