Was on fluoxetine for 8 years and came off it slowly over a couple of years but got to a point recently where I needed to go on medication again. Started back on 20mg of fluoxetine 'cause I had it in the house and then went to see the doctor a week later. After a bit of discussion he put me on 10mg of citalopram as I’d been fine on a lower dose of fluoxetine when I was coming off it and you don’t get a 10mg tab of fluoxetine. Anyway, I had to have a few days off fluoxetine to swap over so after 7 days I had 3 days off and started citalopram yesterday. Feeling really rough! I’m fairly certain it’ll pass but I’m just needing people to tell me it’ll be ok in a few days or a week or so as I feel like I’m dying off here! Just so tired but then struggle to sleep right through the night last night (got some sleeping tablets that help) and feel so anxious and unhappy.
Thanks
My partner has tried both fluoxetine and citalopram and the latter really didnt suit him at all, with lots more side effects than fluox. It may be that cit just doesn't react well with you, regardless of dosage. There are other SSRI's available, may be worth chatting again to your doctor and making it clear just how awful it makes you feel. Some side effects do settle down but others unfortunately don't and it's not worth feeling so awful to continue with cit if it doesnt suit your needs.
I had similar side effects with fluoxetine last week and they were just starting to settle when I stopped. It's hard to compare to even what I felt like last week but I do think this might be a bit worse. I want to give it a week or 2 to see if they subside but it is pretty hard going!
I,m week 7 on 10mg and anxiety lowered but awful side effect of nervousness and feeling edgy is almost unbearable. If you read a selection of postings, you,ll see there is no "norm". We are ll so different. Good luck
