Need some thoughts please cataract surgeries

Hello to all. Need some help. i am 46 years old and very active. i had bilateral catarac surgeries one year ago. In my right dominant eye i put a symphony lens which is an extended depth of focus premium lens. In my left eye i did a multifocal tecnis low add 3.25. 3 Months after surgey i had yags done on both eyes ti do opacifiaction. AFTER THAT THE STUFF THAT WAS LASERED OFF MY LENS WAS STUCK IN MU FIELD OF VISION CAUSING A REFLECTIVE SHIMMERING IN MY EYES WHEN LIGHTS Hit it. IT WAS MADDENING. SO I THEN WENT TI RETINA DR AND HAD VITRECTOMY ON EACH EYE WHICH WAS THE BEST THING EVER. IT GOT RID OF ALL THE PROBLEMS I WAS HAVING.
NOW FAST FORWARD TI NOW. I AM HAVING THE WORST TIME ADJUSTING TO THE TWO DIFFERENT LENSES ONE YEAR LATER. SHOUKD I GET A PIGGIE BACK LENS OR SHOULD I JUST ADJUST WITH CONTACTS OR GLASSES? FROM READING A LOT OF PEOPLE SAY THEY DONT NEED ny glasses after having two SYMPHOMY LENSES IMPLANTED. i cant see my phone with this lens wothout readers. anybsuggestions or thoughts on the symphony lens??

Hi george - sorry to hear you had cataracts so young and have had a rough year.
Just wondering if your surgeries were fairly close together and whether it was your surgeon’s suggestion to go with 2 different lenses versus 2 the same. Has it been difficult since the surgeries adjusting to the 2 different ‘views’?

Unfortunately a lens replacement after yag isn’t usually recommended or done as the capsular bag where lens is placed is now gone. Not sure a piggyback lens would work either - usually done to correct the power unless your 2 different views/images is due to a refraction error? If that is the case perhaps a lasik enhancement would work better?
Have you tried to correct with glasses?

Sue, thanks for the response. I Had them done 3 weeks apart all the surgeries. From catarac to yag to vitrectomy. To answer yoir question about having trouble the amswer is yes in adjusting to the two diff lenses. When i got my first eye done I states that the up close vision was not very good so he said we can put a multifocal in to help wut that on your second eye. I Just assumed that this would be great and that it would not be so different as it is. I really wish I would have put the symphomy in both eyes but what whats done is done. Now i am just trying to figure out yhe best way to see better. I am going to make appt with catarac doctor now that i have gotten the vitrvtomies done and that was succesful. Maybe the answer is a lasik type treatment to sharpen my vision? If nit that then contacts or glasses.

I am in the same situation with Toric Symfony lenses. Studies seem to confirm that many people are satisfied with them but they are a completely unsatisfactory in my view and were a complete waste of money. I am not even close to being able to see without glasses and my vision seems to be getting worse some months after the operation on both eyes. After the first operation it took a while to adjust to the lens but I could see my phone without glasses but it was not that sharp. I could also see all the text on TV. After the second operation I needed YAG treatment immediately and now I cannot see the TV clearly without glasses and reading is variable depending on the material. NICE do not recommend them. A document “Cataracts in adults: management” specifically says “Do not offer multifocal intraocular lenses for people having cataract surgery.” It does not say why. My conclusion is that cataract surgery claims to have low risks but the consequences of failure are serious and very difficult to deal with and treatment carries even more risks.
