Need some urgent reassurance

Health anxiety has made me terrified of everything! I know have bad pain and discomfort on my left side of my chest and my heart is always beating so fast, fully convinced it's a heart problem like a blocked artery of something, only a few mins ago I heard of a boy who died of adult sudden death syndrome! He was only 18 which I am almost 18 which scared the sh** out of me, I'm terrified it could happe. To me too! Ugh hate being like this I really do😞

Hi Rachel. I also have health anxiety. Have you been checked by a doctor recently and have everything check out ok? If so, trust your doctor in that respect. What's helped me a lot is changing my breathing habit. Try lying down and putting a book on your stomach. When you breathe, the book should move up and down. Not your chest. As we grow into adults, we become chest breathers. This shallow breathing creates chronic hyperventilation.  It's actually a syndrome with all kinds of symptoms attached to it, You can read about it online. Also, be careful not to relate yourself to other people's diseases. The percentage of you dying the same way as that young boy is negligible. It's the same as researching your symptoms on line. Thousands of diseases and many non diseases have the same symptoms listed. You couldn't possibly have them all. Your anxiety is actually causing you to have irrational thoughts and making you dwell on the ones that are scariest to you. Try to get involved in something that makes you happy. For me, it's reading a good book or editing photos on the computer. Whatever will raise your spirits. Hope you're feeling better.

What a comforting response from Lynnmaureen.

I share your solute panic and I know exactly how your feel.

I also hate feeling this way and so want ot to stop.

My best reagrds to you.

Thank you so much Lynn really means so much I'm trying the breathing technique as I speak and my palps have disappeared and it's taken the pressure off my chest! Thank you so much means the world!

Hi Christine it's the worst! You should definitely try the book on your stomach teqnique it really works!c

·        Ok

·        You need to calm down

firstly the chance of sds are very slim and with no disrespect if you die, you aren’t going to get anxious so put that one out of your head, because you are not.

what or why would you presume you have a blocked artery you do not have any of the symptoms of heart failure so disregard those ideas

what exactly is your heart beat you don’t say and the more you sit listening for it the faster it gets heartbeat, breathes per minute and blood pressure require a lying or long resting period to get a good taking and you are not doing that, so get that idea out of your head

·        Your have a pain in your left hand side of your chest: Where when does it come on, what are you doing when it does?

·        What type of pain? Jabbing- burning- dull –throbbing- aching -hot -cold - none of these? You have stated simply pain and pain is very subjective so without those details no one can assist you, however at nearly 18, I seriously doubt you have too much to worry about and its worry only that causing your pain.

·        Do you take a pain killer and if so which one works, paracetamol  or iprobrufen /aspirin based etc.

brilliant i should have read your firstly so apologies for cross posting, love the bit about the book hadnt thought of stating that but it works.

This site is a scary place to be if you  have health anxiety  and i dont think many people realise that a minute amount of knowledge is so dangerous.

I have had palpitations, missed heart beats and racing heart for 40 years, i know how you feel, so its no use me saying don,t worry because you will worry!   I hate being like this too, i have learned to deal with it most of the time, that comes with age.

Rachael don't panic I'm in exact same boat n coz I work in hospital as a HCA I no prob too much which makes it worse d past three notes I've been woken from my sleep with heart racing n beating so hard out of my chest I feel clamy etc n pains in chest n its like exact same symptoms as a heart attack! I've has lots of exams done etc all OK but I ave irregular heartbeat anyways and episodes of inappropriate sinus tachycardia which apparently causes no danger n resolves on own.if u have had NY tests and all OK u no its anxiety just an overproduction of adrenaline which ur mind says oh this again let's play with her mind and tat my dear is basically it deep breathing exercises are fantastic! Don't worry it will make it worse

Training as a nurse is what started my health anxieties and has not helped me at all.

It is so difficult to cope with all these scary symptoms isn't it.

I wish you all well and hope we can all improve.

Dear Rachel I hope that you feel better than you did when you posted this message.

I share all of your worries and concerns and my centres mainly around heart problems and scares.

I hope you have calmed down and wish you the best.

Play with whose mind

worried you have svt I too was fed the line that they resolve but what did happen is the svt was covering developing af, so when my heart went there was damage.

So please get it checked

Hi

have you had an echocardiogram or a ct scan ?

The same problem i have too, diagnosed with SVT, waking from sleep with heartbeat of 140, strong heartbeats and tachycardia.   Its reassuring that other people experience this too.   It is a frightening experience.

Def get heart checked

Hi Gillian
