Hi, Just today, I was at the doctors about a problem I've been having. I have a really strong pulse in my neck almost constantly and whenever I touch the base of my neck, I can feel the pulses go up to my head resulting in headaches and discomfort. He said that it sounds like anxiety and I can't lie, I am anxious; but, I'm not sure if it's anxiety causing this sensation or this sensation causing the anxiety. I also have this odd taste in my mouth and sensitive teeth when I touch this area. I have been diagnosed with costochondritis recently so I don't know if it could be a side-effect of that but I just wanted some input from people who maybe have experienced something like this before. Thanks.
A strong pulse is very typical with anxiety. it can be fast or just average rate. I get that quite frequently. Much better than a weak pulse. you are most likely overthinking this. The carotid artery is a large artery in the side of your neck that supplies your brain with blood and oxygen. Be glad that you can feel it.
whether The sensation is causing the anxiety or the anxiety is causing the sensation, it doesn’t matter. Either way, anxiety is the culprit.
some people get strong pulses, some people get racing pulses, and other people get racing strong pulses. but the common denominator is anxiety. i’ve had all of those off and on but they’re just not dangerous I’ve had anxiety for over 30 years with many symptoms including that one. I am very healthy and I don’t let anxiety symptoms take me over. I live my life with joy and gratitude. I did see a counselor to help me manage my anxiety and that might be something you could think about. You could do a virtual appointment if you like. It helps to have somebody else to vent about what is causing anxiety in your life. Hope you feel better . take care
