I work at the operating room and we did surgery on hiv patient . After that the instruments were put in a chlorine solution for about 10 minutes . I then started washing them . I wear gloves . At the end of the day I check my middle fingers and there was some lines on them asceive it is a cut . I put my hands in alcohol , salt water , lime and even put spray on it when I got home but it never hurt me and there was no burning sensation . Should I be worried or it is just my mind playing games on me . I did not check my fingers earlier on before going to work that day
The gloves I wear was a normal latex rubber gloves
So your saying your gloves split and you received a cut on your finger, is that correct. If it was after the items were in the chloride solution I would say you have as much chance of winning the lottery.
Soap and water will kill it and it's not as easy as people think to be contaminated.
No I wouldn't worry, you can always ask your superior
If the gloves did not tear and were intact I'd say it is very unlikely you be contracted it. It is not as easy to catch as people think.. the person with hiv is more at risk of picking up infection than you are of catching hiv. (I was an RN for 10 years)
That said.. you are right to be careful. I think as long as you rinsed your finger soon after and were wearing gloves plus the instruments being soaked makes the chances very slim. If you are at all worried you could always visit occupational health for a blood sample (if you are in the uk) or let you're manager know.
Take care
