So Mothers Day is coming up and I would love to get my mom some pretty boots. Boots however are hard to find for my mother.
My mom is in her late fifties and is need of a hip replacement. Several years ago she was in a car accident where another vehicle hit her head on. She suffered a broken right leg, left side hip was broken, and her siatic nerve in her left leg was severed. She's all full of metal now to say the least, and keeps putting off her hip replacement. Frankly my mother is the rock of my family, and we all depend on her tremdously. She knows we all need her, so she sacrifices herself.
My mother is alway on the search for a cute boot. I would love to find something that would work for her, the qualifications can be hard to meet though. She can't really do anything with a heal, and the shoe can't bee to heavy, both of these things hurt her hip and leg. Lots of cushion is preferred, but insoles can suffice in this area. She also would probably need a zip clouser.
So is there anyone out there that has any ideas or might be able to help me?
I know this isn't exactlly the place to be asking, but I also though "where else is better". Everyone here has gone through the struggles my mom is having, so who else would have better insight.
I look forward to your replies.
Thank you,
Candice
This isn't the best picture, but this is my mom and me.

Hi Candice ... what a beautiful picture and what a loving daughter you are .. I wish I could help you ... it will be challenging to find boots that are cute and comfortable and good for her too - is she in pain ? are her legs the same lenght? Mine apparently were not - I got some kind of orthopedic shoes (ugly, clunky and expensive) that had some corrective insole to compensate for the difference - on hindsight, this was not good at all - apparently it made things worse -
what kind of shoes is she wearing now ?
good luck !
Hi Candi
you don't say which country you are from and as Mother's Day is in March in the UK I suspect you are not from UK.
I have revoltingly wide feet so have addressed this problem frequently. An online store called The Shoe Tailor is very good and do wider fittings that would assist in the insertion of an orthotic. The other alternative would be to get something made but this would be at least £200.
hope this helps. Rosie x
Candi,
Reading your request on this Sunday morning as very uplifting...you are such a lovely daughter to be thinking of your mom.
I am 62 and also love shoes/boots and since having my hip replacement and both bunions removed, shoes can be a challenge, however with saying that I've managed to buy probably as many as Mary (notice how we don't admit how many we have!!!).
I think your immediate problem is finding boots or booties this time of year (unless you live in Argentina where they are starting their winter).
I'm hoping your live in the states, than I can tell you to go to your nearest Talbots store and see what they have...you may have to settle for a support, fun, running shoe, flat loafer for summer and then start scouting around in September for boots.
And actually maybe taking a stroll around your local mall you might just find something and if it doesn't fit, you will have no problems taking them back...then maybe take Mom with you and make a little outing of it with her (coffee and pastries).
Wishing you and your mom and family a lovely summer, Patricia from Toronto
