negative test, still have breakouts?

I had an outbreak of something. Visited the ER, and got a "swab" of the blister. Test came back negative. So, my question one month later, with a similar breakout, what on earth could this be?

We really need to know more!  Breakouts?  Where?  What appearance? Lasts for how long?

Obviously if -ve test then nothing dreadfully serious but still worrying.

Did they do viral swabs? Herpes will not show up on a microscopy or ordinary culture.

you should try a proper STD /GUM clinic for full diagnosis.

The breakouts are in the crease of my legs. Doctor said she thought it was a yeast infection, since I am in the first stages of menopause. They only last for a couple of days, at the most a week. Usually powder and benadryl help.

I think so. She busted one of the sores for the culture. Why would they do it if it will not show ? (Not being rude, just curious)

Also, they are not painful.

Okay, they may have done virus cultures but unless they tell you how can you know. Can you get a report to see what they tested for?

Unlikely to be Herpes then as they are usually sore/painful- like a cold sore but in a different place. There are some rarer dermatology conditions that cause blistering but usually they are a bit more widespread than just the crease of the groin. Try tapping in to google- dermatology blistering disorders and you will see a whole host of possibilities. Take a photo and take it to your GP and see if it is worth a referral for diagnosis.

The hospital sent the report to my OB/GYN. It was a herpes culture. My doctor showed it to me. I go again this month for my yearly. I will ask again. Thanks for everything smile

Thank you. It has really been nerve racking. Your advice has been more than helpful.
