My bf had a sore at the base of his penis, had sex with me THEN tells me about the sore, him thinking it was from a cut. 3 days later I get the bumps then the sores. I go to urgent care and the NP says it looks like herpes and does bloodwork....no swab. I didn't know about the swab test. She puts me on the meds and 1 week later the sores clear up. All labs are negative. Then I get a case of shingles down there...no blisters just all of the pain so I continue taking the meds for that. I finally get to see my ob/gyn. He does a swab test for all of the STD'S and I show him a picture of my bf's sore. He says it looks like a classic herpes sore. The cultures are not back yet. My question is if I had already been on the meds and the OB was already cleared up, would the culture still find the virus? Yes, I'm feeling like my life is over now and this sorry excuse for a man bolted when I told him that I think he gave that to me. He wouldn't go to the dr. Also, does it sound like this us something he gave me? Woyld I get an OB that quickly? We had been together for 2 months.
BTW, these duscussions have been helpful in getting me through this because I am going through this alone now. Thank you all fir being so supportive.
Yeah, it took a week till I got all the symptoms. The swab is only valid if they took enough sample. Ignore the blood tests. It takes 2 weeks-6 months to show. Mine came out negative 2 weeks after exposure but culture said I had hsv2.
Yeah, those are immature guys for you. They refuse to go to the dr. And are in denial. So they keep spreading it and they keep their distance from you till they disappear.

I know and understand exactly what you are going through. Initially it doesn't take long for some type of symptom to come about .,
It's best that you just get a swab and know the full criteria of everything..
It's messed up that you are going through this and you were in complete blind with the disease.. I went through the same thing ever so often I still get a little depressed and feel like my life and especially my sex life is over .
You currently taking suppressive medicine ?
I can say this honestly taught me something . I think things through fully when I'm out and m about ..
It's harder to Come out and tell someone you have herpes , especially since it's not a everyday topic ..
Things will smooth over and please know and understand , God wouldn't put you through it if he didn't think you could make it .
Thank you Carter. Right now I'm on Valtrex 500mg twice a day for the shingles fir a month. Waiting on the cultures to come back I guess. I'm not opposed to suppressve therapy. Does it eventually become ineffective?

How did they know it was shingles? I've never had shingles down there. Just on my back area. I thought mine were shingles too. My swab tested positive but ny bloodwork said negative. You should get retested in 4 to 6 weeks to make sure. For your sanity. Sorry he bolted, he wasn't a real man then. You don't need that in your life. Let him be in denial and naive. At least your doing what your suppose to do. I'm sorry were all in this together!
So sorry to hear this happened to you. I had symptoms only 3 days after having sex with this guy who also wasnt going ti tell me had something going on down there.
He was aware that he has symptoms of some sort but wasnt going to tell me about it. I had to ask and confront him.

Sorry this happened to you, and what a jerk! Fyi, a viral culture swab only works on new lesions. A pcr swab works on older lesions, but you still need lesions/symptoms of some kind. Yes, it's possible to develop symptoms in a day to a week. Negative blood tests means you weren't infected before him, so he gave it to you. You should go off the meds so that you can develop antibodies, then you can do the IgG blood test again at 3 months to confirm the type you have.

I had shingled, again without the blisters only a rash, in April if last year. It follows a nerve path. There is no test for it but I took Valtrex and the pain went away, then I stopped it and the pain came back. That was my test. I did the same this time. I got a radiating pain from my crotch (sit bones area) that radiated into my posterior thighs. It started after I finished my 10 days on 1 MG if Valtrex twice a day. Now I have stabbing pains in my lower abdomen. My dr said he thinks it's shingles too, secondary to herpes due to stress. With shingles I stay on the meds for 30 days.
No problem! Fyi, the shingles pain is likely just pain from the herpes. Related viruses, related symptoms. For some people, genital herpes can cause shooting nerve pain, tingling and/or itching, etc.
I'm so sorry to hear what y'all are experiencing both health wise and in your relationships and I honestly don't have all the answers but I try to do my research as much as I can and learn from the experiences of others. One thing for certain, there is a school of thought that suggest that herpes either 1 or 2 can be cured with suppressive therapy. There is no cure but this type of therapy can reduces the amount of the virus in the body and keep outbreaks under control.
Well, I'm still in the waiting phase. I'm going to wait 4 more weeks to get retested. The rumors at work have started to spread. Karma is a bitch is all I can say. It's embarrassing for me but the rumor is that he gave it to me. That rumor can get flip flopped at any time but I'm not letting it get to me...I have negative test results. I know I wasn't infected prior to him unless it was dormant . Either way, fact remains that he had a sore and irresponsibly had sex with me without telling me.
This has definitely changed my life, possibly for the better. I was meant to be with someone that is going to value me and cherish me. No more casual dating. I think this happened for a reason. I need to focus on more import things in life. How's everyone else doing?
Gosh, how did the rumour start? That's really unfortunate, but at least it's rumoured that he gave it to you and not vice versa! Even if the virus was dormant when you tested, if by IgG, it would still be positive if you had the virus at the time, as the test is for antibodies which remain in your blood, regardless of whether the virus itself is active or not.
How did the cultures you mentioned in your original post come back?

I confronted him about it. I just had to speak my mind. He is a paramedic. I told him he should have known better, regardless of whether he thought it was just a cut or something else. It's BROKEN SKIN! You don't expose others to that under any circumstance.
Cultures were negative but I was all healed up. So, it was nothing or just no viral shedding? I was on Valtrex still bc of the shingles pain or what I thought was shingles pain....it felt similar.
