I had a filling today. In and out - articaine injected, tooth filled, ready to go pretty quickly. Then I almost passed out on the bus back; vision all funny, could barely hold my head up and my chest felt like it was struggling. Been really tired and the injection is still numbing four hours later surprisingly.
Is this anything to be concerned about? I went there on an empty stomach so I'm guessing the nerve block could've been a bit more potent than expected.
Numbing can last for a few hours so that part is normal. Up to 6 hours is not terribly uncommon. General fatigue and tiredness is to be expected but if you experience any trouble breathing you should seek medical assistance immediately.
You should not have had an empty stomach whenever you go for dental treatment make sure you eat something before hand unless you were told otherwise not to.
It reminds me when I had to have injections in my back I hadn't eaten and drunk anything after 11pm the previous night.
And because I had a long wait the next day
I felt what you experienced after treatment.
I had the option of having a little snooze but I hate being put to sleep against my own will.
The consultant calls it some word I can't remember it's what happens to you if you have drugs in your body that has nothing to counteract the adverse reaction of the drugs in the body on an empty stomach!!😬
Your symptoms match effects of epinephrine (adrenaline, which is usually (unless contra-indicated or requested otherwise) added to the anaesthetic to constrict the capillaries making it take longer to dissipate.
