Hi, I really need some advice. There's a bit to read but hopefully it will help! Also, this might not be the right area so apologies in advance.
3 weeks ago I had a muscle spasm in my lower back that shifted the muscles around quite alarmingly - thought my hip had popped out. I went to A&E and they told me I'd had the spasm as a result of my body protecting the horse tail nerves that are around my spine. The only pain I have at the moment runs from my glutes to my calf, in certain stretched positions. It's definitely improving but very slowly, and I know I need to be patient as it can take weeks.
The main issue I have is strength in my right leg. Since this happened I now can't raise myself using my right foot - going to tiptoe. Left leg, fine. Right leg, it's like there's no signal, no strength. And it's freaking me out. Before all this, I was running, going to the gym, cycling - 4-5 days a week.
My question is this - is there anything I can do? Do I need to stretch it (kind of feels taught all the time anyway)? Perhaps I need to massage the areas?
Please help as this is freaking me out!
Thanks
Jim
Hi jim
did they took any mri of your lowerback in a&e? the horse tail they mentioned is cauda equina.please dont neglect weakness on leg and foot problem.
Hi have you had a MRI to determine what's happening .. I was diagnosed with cuada
Equina last year have emergency surgery to remove l5 disc... Unfortunately the damage to my nerves was done as time has passed before I was rushed in for op... I was I. A wheelchair completely for months and slowly now I am beginning to walk again ...My left bum leg and foot are numb get shocks and spasms often .. This won't improve much further also have no feeling for vowels or bladder at all which is hard to deal with ... Weakness in your leg is not good and I would advise you to keep going to your go and get a scan of you have not had one ...the fact they have mentioned horsetail to you is a concern .. With des time is everything to catch it in time ... I was very very active before and now a simple task leaves me in much pain and distress unable to walk .. Hope this helps .. You can let us know how you get on xx
I'm thinking same as you Mano1 very urgent he gets seen by a specialist ASAP sounds like ces to me also x
Athens machine may help as would gentle excercises in water .. I find excercise makes me much worse no matter how light .. It's just figuring out what helps you .. I urge you demand a MRI ASAP x
Yes karen you r right.in my case i did mri privately(even my gp said no to mri) and found the significant compression on cuada equina (funny thing i didnt had any symptoms except slight heavyness on toes and a mild pain on leg)still i gone for surgery within 2 weeks.now its 7th week after surgery.i just started 4 hours work yesterday.have to say i felt discomfort yesterday.may be becsuse of new department or domething mentally
Well done that's fast to go back to work ... !!! It will make you feel uncomfortable just take it slow .. My full leg feels like you have been to dentist and had a ton of numbing jags constantly .. Kinda getting used to it now .. .😊 what do you do for a living ??
Seems u may have a pretending disc which is catching some of ur nerves to ur lower half u need to see what the problem is then it's ur choice of treatment only u should decide this get the facts first. Question do u have any difference s in pooing and weeing.
Keith
You must go in ASAP. Throw a fit if you have to, you need an MRI!!
The weakness can become permanent and from experience, you do not want that. Are you having numbness in the area if you were to sit on a saddle? Bladder changes of any kind? Bowel changes? All of this can be subtle but warrants your utmost clarity! Go now.
How are you doing ?? X all the problems sensations and feeling or lack of are very frightening and worrying .. I'm kinda just getting used to them daily xx
