Today I found out about some recent research that has implications for CFS. It's very unusual to get free access to a resource like this so I highly recommend downloading it if you're interested in such things. I think this research will be interesting to many of you because I know a lot of CFS sufferers, myself included, feels there's something funny going on with our immune systems. This study shows that we might be right. It's by no means conclusive, but it's another piece in the massive jigsaw puzzle that is CFS. Hope you find it interesting!
looks like the link you posted is gone but I did see a report today on the bbc news site about some research in the uk. it involved overactive immune system in hepatitis patients. Don’t know if thats the same story you were referring to.
the study certainly corresponds to my own experience - having a big overreaction to viruses etc and taking weeks or months to recover.
I know, I don’t think it’s very helpful research as it means only those with a virus related trigger are being test subjects? And thus anti virals end up being seen as a cure (which presently don’t work for everyone) I think that it’s not as simple as that. They need to decide if anyone can get cfs/me or only certain “types” also, a whole hospital went down with it in the 1940’s and surely not all the doctors/nurses/patients and other staff had overactive immune systems? Also, a few whole towns in America have “got” cfs/me. And what about all those who spontaneously recover? More research needed on a bigger group anyway than 55!
I get our immune systems can take a punching with this condition but, really, we all have over active immune systems before cfs/me? I was in a car crash, I wasn’t ill at the time. That was my trigger and I believe there are different routes into this condition and non are lesser than each other. We all suffer the same/similar stuff. Brain fog/exhaustion/tinnitus/ibs etc etc etc.
I welcome new research but, I feel a bit like is that the best they’ve got?
