New Cream for split skin

I had my 6 month check up at Dermatology the other day and mentioned that the LS appeared to have spread between my bum cheeks and caused some splitting of the skin. The Dermatologist told me that it is a common area for LS and that because this area is quite moist and full of bacteria it tends to get easily infected and causes splitting of the skin. She prescribed me Dermovate but with an anti fungal additive, it's basically Clobetasol proportionate 0.5mg/neomycin sulphate 5mg and nystatin 100,000 IU/g. Been told to use it whenever the skin is split for up to 4 weeks once a day. Thought it might be of interest to others suffering the same problem.

Thanks, Hazel.

1.Are you in UK and is this available without prescription?

2.It sounds logical.  Has anybody had experience with this?

That is very interesting. I've been thinking there's a symbiosis between LS, yeast and bacteria. I might mention this to my gynae at my February appointment.

Yes, I'm in the UK and it's only available on prescription because like normal Dermovate it's the most potent of the topical steroids as it has 0.5 Clobesatol in it. I've only used it a couple of days and the split has healed (thankfully as sitting down was becoming an issue).  She said to also use it when I have fissures on the perinium and obviously to use it instead of the normal Dermovate.

That is interesting Hazel.

Thanks

Wilma.

That is interesting hazel, I wasnt aware you could get a combination cream like that as I have stinging and sore butt cheeks all the time  and Dermovate dosn't clear it but if I use canastan cream it does help more.  Thanks for sharing.

Hi Roselee, Canesten is an anti fungal cream used for thrush it is not particularly strong which is why it's sold without prescription. The ointment I've mentioned is a combination of anti fungal and steroid and is more potent, it has the same strength Clobesatol as Dermovate but also has the anti fungal properties of Canesten in a higher dose so does the trick for treating the LS but at the same time heals the splits in the skin caused by fungal infections. Hope that makes sense.

Sounds just what I think I need.does it have a different name to Dermovate, as I am in the UK so maybe able to ask my GP.

I looked it up based on the ingredients you list:

Dermasol-N, Clobetasol propionate 0.05% w/w, neomycin sulphate 0.5% w/w and nystatin 100,000 units/gm

Comes in cream and ointment. Sounds very good for when things are out of control.

The label says Clobetasol Proportionate NN (Dermovate NN Generic) Cream. I was prescribed ointment but there has been some trouble with production so could only get the cream, thought it was better than nothing. It's manufactured by a UK company called Essential Generics.

Thank you Hazel & morrell it sounds like it could help me as I feel fungal cream helps me more the Dermovate as my irritation is around my anus and bum cheeks. Thanks for sharing not heard of this type of cream before.

OK, so you have the generic version of Dermovate NN, which seems the same as Dermasol-N.

Yes it seems that way Morrell, I inderstand you are in Canada (jealous!) so it's possibly made by a different company under a different name. makes you wonder why we haven't heard of it before. It's quite annoying how we just seem to stumble along with this condition finding things out as we go (mostly from this forum) especially when it's so common!
