New drugs for osteoporosis such as romosozumab. Amy others?

Apparently there is at least one new drug being tested. It is in it second year of testing in the UK.

It is called romosozumab.

Has anyone heard of this?

Also, are there are any other new drugs on the horizon for osteoporosis?

How near are they for public distribution?

Hi Kathleen, one website has something on this: Like many osteoporosis drugs, romosozumab may indeed increase bone mineral density; but the problem is, this is achieved artificially by suppressing the body’s natural remodeling process. The bone then becomes hard and brittle, and more prone to breakage. Romosozumab is no exception to this bone-damaging rule.  There seem to be possible doubts about safety because it's not been tested yet, apart from a study done by those who have a financial interest in it?

Just looked on other sites Kathleen, and they sound much more positive about it.  It sounds as though it may be a better option than some drugs around.

They are onto the second study now.

Time will tell I guess!

It looks more encouraging than some of the other options, but I guess it's early days to tell.

Hi there. I have read an article about this drug. According to the article it looks promising as it jncreases bone mass density. But then again who knows. The article could be biased. Further investigation is needed
