Hi all I was wondering if anyone else got the new pain cathater with knee replacement. It's brand new they only started it in our hospital 2 weeks before I had mine that was 8 weeks ago. It's a baseball size bottle full of numbing meds. It was placed in my leg about 3 inches from my incision and its in a little black bag with a shoulder strap so you can carry it with you. It releases numbing medicine on top of your knee continuously. It's lasts 5 days then you just pull it out at home. It was amazing. I definitely could feel the difference once it was gone. Also my dr used super glue to close my incision then when I went home the bandage he put on it was called a honeycomb and you can shower with it on. My dr does nothing but knee replacements all day long so he's good at it. I feel so blessed to have him.
Sounds awesome! Wish I had that, as the pain meds were not very effective when I was still in the hospital. And even though we're told to ask for meds when the pain starts to return, I always got the "not quite yet" answer. Not pleasant! A also had my incision super glued - another great improvement over staples. The incision is razor thin. Sounds like things are going well for you Gwen. Glad to read this....keep it up!

Very interesting concept. New things are being come up with all the time. My surgeon and one of the infectious disease guys are waiting for fda approval of a new type bandage to help control staph infections. One more positive step in the surgery field. Where are you located. Every country has its own approval method on these things and for good reason.
I did't have a pain pump like that, I had an epidural while in the hospital.
My dr also just glues the incision shut, so I was also able to shower just no bath for 6 weeks. My Dr was great. Knees are his specialty !!
Hi Gwen - wow that sounds a great alternative for people like me who cannot take oral pain meds. Lucky you. Mine also uses the honeycomb dressing but uses dissolving internal stitches not glue. The dressing is so very good and saves the huge rigmarole with bathing. I find water so restorative and was in the shower as soon as I was able !! God bless technology

4 of the last 5 surgeries I've had on my leg/knee they used the femoral block which was phenomenal compared to the old epidural block but they have to remove it 24 to 36 hrs after surgery because the leg has to wake up enough for you to realize how much weight you are putting on it and as a safety measure. What part of the US are you located. I'm in the metro KC area
