New Partner

I had mentioned in an earlier post that I had an ex (on & off) who wants to be with me seriously & sexually lol. I told him about my whole situation and he took it very well. He cares about me taking care of myself. Now, he's ready to get busy. I'm not. Granted you're most contagious your first three months or whatever that's not even my real reason. I'm just not ready to have anyone down there at all. I feel a little bad even though he understands. *sigh* I also want to know..I know the chances are small of him getting it BUT what is the percentage for oral sex. I have a dental dam but let's be completely honest, who even uses these things? 😐

Hard to say. Type 1 generally sheds much less overall, but it also prefers the mouth. I don't think any studies have been done on genital HSV-1 transmission risks. All the stats you see are for HSV-2. Type 1 is said to be lower still, but then there's the mouth preference business.

So, I suppose the odds of you being infectious are low, but when you are, the odds of passing it to someone's mouth are higher, if they are negative for Type 1.

I figured that the stats were for hsv-2. Hmph. Thanks!

I was just diagnosed with type 2 yesterday. I feel like I was hit by a train. My GF has never had any symptoms but I obviously got it from her. She is going to be tested as well this week and get meds. My fear is that we will never be able to give each other oral sex again. Has anyone heard of the risks if both partners are infected????

You can't get more herpes so if you both have the same one I believe you don't have to worry about any restrictions.

HSV-2 really doesn't like the mouth or anywhere else much, plus once you have it genitally, you are essentially protected from getting it orally. If you both have the same type, you can engage in whatever sex you like, as you can't reinfect each other.

If you happen to be both infected with the same type then as far as sex goes you can have at if with each other because you can't pass something back and forth that you both already have. Read the book "The Good News About The Bad News".

Also why do you think it's from her and not a former partner?

I have only had one other partner for the previous 5 years. Though I know it can sit dormant for years I didnt think it was a coincidence that a month after I started with new partner I had the outbreak. There were times that a brownish discharge would come out of her after long rough sex but we really didnt think anything of it. When I told her about my diagnosis she was not suprised and said she very well couldve gotten it from her previous partner who was very unfaithful. Previous to our relationship she was screened for eveything but HSV. She has no insurance so we are currently looking at options to get her tested.

Never had anything close to any symptoms before this happened. Though I know it couldve been my previous partner. It is very unlikely.

Then yeah that makes sense. I'm sorry to hear that. Kind of messed up if she knew but maybe she had symptoms and thought it was something else. Brown discharge means she could have just been spotting or just getting off her period. I'm so sorry. Are you going to stay with her? Did you see an outbreak on her or anything abnormal?
