New stiffness

I had my left hip replaced in September 2017, and I feel have done very well. I was back on full 12.5 hour physical shifts in December, after returning at 9 weeks for a short period of office rehab for around 4 weeks. On shift I can walk around 5 miles typically, and hardly sit down. I have found over the last few weeks I have become increasingly stiff in the hip, with pain in the buttock at times, or in the groin and front of thigh. I also have intermittent mid thigh pain at various times. The stiffness is particularly noticeable after I have had some down time, and to be honest I am so exhausted in between shifts I'm finding it hard to keep going and feel inclined to rest. I've also started to notice pain in my 'good' hip and am now being woken by the pain in that at night sometimes. That being said, I have kept up my exercises which include clam shells, side leg raises, squats, and backward thigh lifts on a daily basis, and do the usual pottering about things one does on days off. I have been swimming and in the water my flexibility is as if I'd never had a hip replacement. I've seen my physio who has added in some stretches, but is otherwise unconcerned. My questions are am I making things worse and should I lay off the exercises, and if not, is there anything I can do to improve things? My walking is completely normal. I still can't put my sock on and do up my shoe by the way!

I am 16 weeks. I ran at 5 weeks. Still have some deep stiffness. Not really pain.  I just push it a little more each day. I have progressed well

Hi Jools2512: You sound like where I was at your point in time. I was walking about 4 miles a day for exercise. My next move is to lose about 30-35 pounds before I commit to a revision. I'm at 262 and my "normal" has been 245 for the past couple of decades. I'd love to get into the 220 range and then see how everything feels before I go under the knife again. I have no fear of surgery. I've worked in the medical device industry for 30+ years. I just want to give myself the best possible change to heal on my own. Orthopedic surgeons are great carpenters but I am still in pain. Go figure. Great procedure but it still hurts. I'm no doctor either but only you and your healthcare providers can decide what's too much and what's not enough. Good luck and thanks for sharing.

Hi jools, your story is exactly the same as mine. Stiffness is terrible I'm down as I'm thinking my other may need done  I'm starting to dread going to work I do about 10 mile a day. But it's all small steps not full strides. Feel like my legs are ceasing up and a lot of disco met in buttocks. Help!!
