I've suffered from depression for many years but recently something new is happening which I've never heard of or seen mentioned anywhere.
Everybody knows about wakening in the middle of the night very low in mood and unable to get back to sleep. That doesn't seem to happen to me much these days, but often I'll awaken after a short sleep, soon after going to bed but sometimes also during the day or in the evening if I fall asleep in the chair, feeling extremely flat: no mental energy and no feelings about anything. On the other hand I can often get back to sleep quite quickly, or at least I'm not lying awake for hours as I used to sometimes.
In a way that's hard to pin down, it feels different from the typical "wee small hours" thing, but maybe that's just my imagination. What's certainly different is the timing. The wee small hours thing I believe is due to the time of day and bodily rhythms being at a low ebb, whereas this always seems to follow short periods of sleep but can be at any time of day.
Anybody experienced this, or heard about it, or have any thoughts?
